The firee-act mystery drama was hlgh ghted by the outstanding per- Eirmances of Darrell Blanton, hurston Dunn, Irvln Clark, Mar n Anderson, Larry Blakely, and thers. Aerial photographs have been taken. , Luther Rogers Is a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Portland. Rogers crushed his hand and fingers while working. Mrs. Lawrence Hills and Mrs. Kenneth Harklns entertained re cently at a dinner party in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Val Lee on their wedding anniversaries. At Lorane Sunday LORANC Universal Bible Sunday will be observed at Lorane Christian Church Oee. 14 by a special exhibit of very old or unique Bibles, or Bibles printed In a foreign language. The community Is Invited to participate in this exhibit. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Bahensky will leave Dec. 1J for their for mer home at St. Paul, Neb., for an indefinite stay. Parents are especially urged to attend for without parents we will not be able to continue the canteen. . , Halsey News Rika de Broekert HALSEY Halsey High School did very well at the Jamboree held at the Harrlsburg gymnasium Friday evening. In the cheering contest, Halsey was second. Hal sey lost to Harrlsburg, won over Brownsville and Sclo and tied with Sheed, which gave them the highest total score. A daughter, Candls Elaine, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Giles at the Corvallis General Hospital Dec. 3. She is their third child but first daughter. Bob is employed on the Corvallis Gazette Times and Mrs. Giles Is the former Ger- aldlne Straley. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Straley of Halsey and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Giles, editors of the Brownsville Times are grand parents. Mrs. H. L. Straley of Brownsville is great grandmother, Robert and Denny Giles, the baby's two brothers are at the Straley home here. Mrs. Stephen Smith underwent a tonsilectomy at Eugene Monday morning. Russell Norton is patient in the Corvallis General Hospital having undergone an appendectomy. Dr. Emll Brunswick of Des Moines, Iowa and Reuben Bruns- wick of Rembrandt, Iowa, visited at the Harlan Eastman nome last week. He has purchased a farm near Shedd and will move his family to Oregon to make their home. The Christian Endeavor will have a party In the parlors of the Christian Church Thursday evening with the young people from the MYF as guests. A Willamette Union C. I. rally will be held at the local Christian Church Sunday at 2:30 p. m. Donald oreeves, a student ai Utah State University, Logan, Utah, arrived last week to visit his mother, Mrs. Mae Greeves and sister, Mrs. P. J. Dennlson and family. The auction sale at the Lake Creek Grange Saturday evening netted them nearly $150 for their building fund. Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Kiier are the pround parents of daughter, Diane Ilene, born Dec. 8 in Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. Berl Klzer of Harrlsburg and Mrs. Edna Ludlow of Hlllsboro are grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Klzer of Harrlsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Green of Coburg are greatgrandparents all for the first time. WC'TU meets Tuesday, Dee, It at I P. m. with Mrs. O. L. Covault. Creswell Nears Chest Filling CRESWELL Creswell has not quite completed the Community Chest drive. To date a total of $490 has been turned In to the chairman, E. E. Allen. Ralph Rogers assisted Allen with the rural soliciting while Mrs. Nor man Skaggs and Mrs. ti. a. Howe assisted Mrs. V. W. Johns ton with that in town. G. H. Mawson had charge of the busi ness houses and the mills. Presbyterian Aid Society meets Wednesday, 1 p. m. pot luck din ner at the home of Mrs. A. J. Ga briel. Officers will be elected and a Christmas party with gifts en joyed. The birthdays of the last four months will be observed. Christmas party is planned at Womans Society of Christian Service at the , Methodist Church Annex. Wednesday with Mrs. F. W. Ogram In charge. The annual reports will be given. Central Folks Gather For Old-Fashioned Community Visiting Central Community meets at the Grange Hall, Saturday, 8 p. m. for dancing, cards and visit ing. Bring cookies, or upside- down cake. 'Friendship' Headed Here PORTLAND UP) A "Friend ship Train" lft here Friday for the University of Oregon's needy. The "train" was actually a car and trailer, filled with food and clothing contributed by the Uni versity of Oregon Mothers Club and Individuals. It Is to go to financially hard- pressed GI students and their families. Among the contributions aboard the "train" are baby bug gies and high chairs. Mrs. Perrle Dolph, manager of the campaign since she thought up the idea four years ago, ex plained that many students are barely getting by In these days of high prices. YONCALLA A turkey dinner was given by the Parent-Teachers Assn. at the school lunch room Monday evening. About $127 was taken In, but there is some ex pense for turkeys, buns, etc. Proceeds will be used for the school kitchen. The P-TA will have charge of the treats at the community Christmas tree Tuesday, Dec. 23. Mrs. Sarah Wertz, Mrs. Rudy Ul- brlcht, and Mrs. Russell Loyd were appointed on the finance committee to raise money for the treats. About $100 was added to the P-TA fund from the play they gave In November. The town and country club gave $42.50 to the P-TA for the kitchen and hot lunches. The kitchen Is in need of plates, glasses for Juices, knives, and dish towels. Names of five new members were turned In. Mrs. Luthur Martin, Mrs. Harry Abbott, and Mrs. Elmer Bragg are school cooks. Mrs. Abbott gave a reading. Mrs. Ruby Thomas' grade school girls sang, and Mrs. Lee gave a short talk on Children's Hospital in Eugene. The next meeting will be Jan. 12. The Yoncalla Saddle club elect ed officers recently: president, Charles Applegate, vice-president, Art Rychard; secretary, Wayne Rice; and treasurer, William Cas tor. At a recent agricultural conser vation meeting of district nine the following officers were elected and delegates chosen. Chairman, W. A. Rychard; vice-chairman, John Cook; regular member, Harold Turpin; first alternate, Herman Thlele; second alternate, Wilbur Briner: delegate to county convention, W. A. Rychard; alter nate delegate, John Cook. The Home Economics club of the Rice Hill Grange is raising money, to build a new kitchen on their hall. Wright was taken by amDuiance to a hospital. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Applegate, Nov. 30. at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eu gene. Word was received here of the death of Mrs. Martha Shields a former resident of Yoncalla for many years. She is the mother of Mrs. Tom Holloman and grand mother of Hollls Pennington. A potluck dinner was given at the Oscar Langdon home Sunday In honor of their 52nd wedding anniversary and Fred Lee's birthday. Both anniver saries come on Dec. 8.
