I The U. S. Weather Bureau at Chicago reported that cooler j weather and some rain had moved into most of Nebraska, and was expected to move into Iowa and sections of Illinois and Indiana Thursday and Friday. j The forecast said that the rains would not be as heavy as the thirsty crops need, but that they would bring some relief to drying fields. Early Wednesday and Tuesday night, many parts of the country had general showers, which helped to relieve sufferers from the late rummer heat In Nebraska, temperatures Wed nesday ran about 10 degrees low er than Tuesday, when they hit the high 90's. Temperatures still were in the 90's in Iowa, Indiana and Illinois the other principal corn states but were expected to drop later this week. State and federal crop statis ticians said even with rain and cooler weather Nebraska will be lucky to have even a "fair" corn crop. At least 10, per cent of the late corn haa a chance to sur vive, the statistician, said. At Indianapolis, the weather bureau said even If showers come to Indiana this weekend, as pre dicted, they will do little to ease the widespread crop damage. The Illinois crop reporting serv ice said heat and drought have Scouts Finish Camp At McKenzie Summit A long-term camp at Lake Melakwa at the McKenzie sum mit, which may someday become the center of the Boy Scouts' Ore gon Trail Council camping pro gram, was completed recently by Troop 53 of Waldport, their Scoutmaster, Don Moffitt, and Roger L. Bales, Scout executive. Percy Brown, camping chair man, said the lake is about a mile and a half from Scott Lake, and u reached by packing in. The campers explored the area, and made rough maps which will be used by the camping committee in evaluating the property. Last year members of the camp ing committee and the executive board made special trips to the luke and decided to establish the experimental camp. Campers this vear were Dave H. Ward.
