Butte Park fans had a hike to the Anchorage for a swim, followed by a trip through the University of Oregon museum. Children from Condon also took a trip to the Anchorage last week. Mrs. Scott is a graduate of the University of Oregon drama school and has been active in VLT work for the past six years. The role she will take is that of Settler's Wife. She and Don Hot ter, The Settler, will act as narra tors for the entire production. Mrs. Scott has played in many VLT shows, including "Romeo and Juliet," "Dangerous Corner," and "Cradle Song." and recently directed one of the productions. She also appeared in one of the olio acts in "The Streets of New YorK. EuRcne's Bureau of Fire Pre-1 vention was going uhend Saturday with plans to designate smoking ureas in public buildings, in ac cordance with a recent amend ment to the lire prevention ordi nance. Smoking areas in Eugene Ar mory have been set up in the men's rcstroom in the basement, and in the women's restroom on second floor. Firemen said they expected to designate smoking areas in theaters next week. The new amendment provides that the smoker and the building manager shall be equally respons ible to penalties for smoking in undesignated areas. The amend ment provides for a fine of not more than $100, or one day in jail for each two dollars of the unpaid fine. Injured Railroader Said Getting Better Ernest R. Fogdall of Northern Montana college has been named assis'ant dean o' men at the Uni versity of Oregon. The appoint ment, announced by the presi dent's office, is 'ubiect to confirm ation by the State Board of Higher Education, The new personnel man has both baccalaureate and master's degrees with major fields of study including history, political science, education and educational admin istration, and psychology. He was instructor of social stud ies and director of publications in the Junior college at Burlington, Iowa, from 1934 to 1946. From 1940 to 1946 he was dean of the Junior college. In 1946 he took the position at Northern Montana as dean of men. About 112 JRC members from 45 chapters in Washington, Ore gon, Idaho, and one chapter in Canada, have enrolled for the course in leadership and recrea tional training offered by the Red Cross. Student delegates were se lected by the local chapter in preparation for assuming leader ship responsibilities when school reopens in September. II I Junction City Revises Pinball Taxes System JUNCTION CITY The tax on distributors of pinball machines here was changed from an annual to a quarterly basis this week by the city council, by an amend ment to the original taxing ordi nance. The total annual distributors' tax remains at $50, and the amended ordinance retains the $50 monthly tax on the operation of a minimum of ten machines, City Recorder John Norris said.
