II INTROOUC I tOpNOMY SIZES BETROTHAL IS TOLD AT LUNCHEON EVENT COTTAGE GROVE An nouncement was made this week of the engagement and ap proaching marriage of Miss Joyce Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Smith of Eugene, to Gene L. Durham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Durham of this city. The news was told at a luncheon given Tuesday by Miss Smith's mother at the Osburn Hotel, where covers were laid for ten. Miss Smith was on the faculty of the Union High School here the past year. Her home until a year ago was in Abilene, Texas. Mr. Durham Is a veteran who spent four years in service, much of the time in Italy. He was graduated from local schools in 1940 and attended Oregon State College. - The wedding is planned for midsummer. FAMILY PICNIC SET BY CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS Catholic Daughters of Amer ica will hold its annual picnic for families and friends Sunday, June 15, at the Skinner Butte Park. The picnic will be from one-thirty ' until ' five o'clock. Luncheon will be served at four o'clock. Those attending are instructed to bring a hot dish or salad, and table service. The group will furnish dessert, coffee and cream. GUILD TO SEW St. Mary's Episcopal Guild will meet at the Parish Hall Wednesday for all-day sewing, and will have a paper-sack luncheon at noon. A new quilt is in the frame, ready for quilt ing. WOMEN'S BENEFIT Associ ation will meet on second and fourth Thursdays of each month hereafter, it is announced, and at a new place, the Unitarian Church, corner f Eleventh and Ferry Streets. A meeting will be held there Thursday evening at eight o clock. AUXILIARY to Sons of Union .Veterans will meet Thursday at the Armory, at two o'clock. At six-thirty they will have dinner with the SUV, and a program will follow. This will be the last meeting until fall for the SUV, but the auxiliary will continue meeting through the summer. BUSINESS MEETING of United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary will be held Monday evening at seven-thirty ociock at the Armory. Past Presidents Club of the auxiliary, which met recently with Mrs. W. G.
