Two of the nine crew members were picked up by a naval vessel, two were killed and five were missing. Air Ministry officials said naval vessels were searching the seas for the five missing men. The Lan caster was one of six coastal com mand bombers from Ballykelly, Northern Ireland, and was en gaged In the maneuvers. The pilot of a Scandinavian air lines passenger plane en route from New York to Prestwick, Scotland, reported by radio to Stockholm that he had witnessed the crash and rescue from the air. Westmoreland Picks Officers New officers have been elected for the Westmoreland Civic Im provement Assn. and an active effort is planned to obtain im provements tor areas in the west ern part of the city, it was an nounced Friday. Installation of street lights and opening of Garfield St to improve access to the region are two of the major goals. Robert Keefe was elected presi dent. Felix N. Miller vice-presi dent and Mrs. John R. Chapman secretary. The association repre sents three areas the Westmore land. Prospect Park and Chambers areas and the Chambers area has elected its two members of the board of directors. These are W. W. White and Charles Good. The other areas will elect directors at future meetings. White, Good and J. E. Brindie have been named on a committee to contact city officials regarding procedure for obtaining improve ments for the area, especially street lights and the Garfield St. opening. With materials now more avail able than in the war years, mem bers of the association feel that some construction work should be possible, they said. . The cruiser Tucson and 15 de stroyers had traversed nearly all of the 360-mile long, 80-mile wide course mapped out for them by Navy experts who plotted where the missing Fort Dearborn life. boat might have drifted after the men abandoned ship during a storm nine days ago. Marks, 32, Albany attorney and son of Willard L. Marks, president of the State Board of Higher Edu cation, died in a hospital here Thursday after a heart attack. A graduate of the University of Oregon, he had practiced law here. At one time he served with the Secretary of State's legal depart ment in Salem.
