City fo Do Repairs
On Faulty Asphalting
The city maintenance depart
ment will repair several bad spots
in Eugene streets until the J. C.
Compton Co., Portland contractors,
can return to repair asphaltic
pavement which did not meet with
the approval of city officials and
citizens when it was laid last-tall
City Manager Deane Seeger said
the company has not been paid a
cent for the job, which will run
in excess of $20,000. The failure
of the company to do a satisfactory
job was attributed to rainy and
coia weather, and to inexperieced
help at the plant. Seeger said en
gineers who nave examined the
work-indicated that the mixture
was overheated. ; ,
A street department crew will
repair the worst spots, in the next
week or two, and the work will be
charged to the contractors. Seeger
said the .company would do the
job over when the weather is auf
fciently warm this summer.
