ahead 33-24, but in the final frame
the Warriors rallied and nearly
surpassed Coburg before a final
flurry of baskets by the Broncos.
Creswell and McKenzie fought
another close battle, with the score
tight all' the way. Bob Kirkpat
rick. was largely instrumental in
the Bulldogs' . win, potting 18
points.
Barrett Tops
After spotting the Vikings an
early lead, Coach Al Johnson's
Mapleton Sailors pulled ahead in
the last half to win. With Bob
Barrett scoring 14 points in the
first half, the Vikings led 24-23
at the intermission. In the third
quarter Mapleton pulled into a
39-33 lead, and was going far
ahead as the game ended. Barrett,
possessing an extreme hard shot
to guard, scored 25 points to top
all scoring.
Lowell couldn't find the inside
of the hoop in the first half in the
title game, and the 'Billies opened
up with fast-break plays to romp
to a 2Z-14 halltlme advantage.
Lindley, Dowdy and Casey paced
the first-half attack with all three
scoring at will on fast-break
plays, and on lone one-handers.
Two "Hot"
In the third period the . 'Billies
showed even more potency, as
Dowdy and Casey become hotter
than the proverbial firecracker to
pace them to a 35-18 bulge going
into the final period.
The "Billies only outscored Low
ell 18-17 in the last heat, but the
game had already been won.
Dowdy was high for the game
with 20, followed by Casey with
16.

Reflecting crippling effects of
the winter's industrial crisis, the
white paper set the export goal
for 1947 at 140 per cent of pre
war levels in comparison with
the 175 per cent government econ

report said the long-time goal re

Inducements Planned " '
To get more coal, the report
said the government would ex
empt miners from military serv
ice for five years; would recruit
35,000 new miners; provide more
homes for miners; seek to raise
the production goal from 259 tons
per man in 1946 to the 308 tons
per man -mined in- the peak year
ot 1937: and. institute a nation
wide fuel rationing system.
To increase the labor force, the
government declared it would take
nearly half a million men from
the armed forces, bring in foreign
workers, seek to attract house
wives to the factories and hold
veteran laborers in their jobs be

Stresses "Locals . i ,
The importance of "localizing"
all news stories by bringing them
into focus with the lives of people
in the newspaper's own area was
stressed by Thomas W. Berber,
Oregon City Enterprise, in a morn
inc talk.
The "tremendous potential
source of good will" in the com'

was brought out by Freda Mowrey,
The Oregonian club editor. She
advised publishers that virtually
every woman reader is club
member, since there are 100,000
women's organizations' with 20,-
000,000 members in the United
States today.
Describes School
She also described the Ore
gonian's school for club press
chairman, and showed how it pro
duced results in better coverage,
good will and public relations.
Les Ordeman, Oregon Journal
photographer, demonstrated new
photographic equipment to the
publishers and editors. He de
scribed new processes which have
cut the time for production of
news pictures to as low as 10 min
