Troop 58 Sets Record for Awards At Recent Assembly Girl Scouting for girls of junior, high school age was the theme of an all-girl assembly at Woodrow Wilson junior high school last week. Mrs. C. H. Michel, executive secretary for Girl Scouts of the Three Rivers Council, was the main speaker and members of all six of the scout troops at the junior high took part in the program. A record was set at court of award ceremonies, which followed Mrs. Michel's talk, when eleven members of troop 58 were award ed First Class badges. This is the most girls to receive this rank in one troop at one time, according to records at the Girl Scout office, To attain this honor, a Girl Scout, must receive a total of ten badges, at least four and not more than seven of which are in her major field of interest. The new first class Scouts are Marilyn Fulton, Barbara Pitcher, Mary Lou Teague, Billie Weber, Marion Rutledge, Joan Lllley, Marian Reese, Joanne Forstrom, Marcella Kyte, Margaret Andrus and Roberta Wilson. Two Second Class, three design and two needlecraft badges were also awarded. Lorene Richmond, mem ber of troop 88 who had previously attained the First Class rank as sisted Mrs. Michel in awarding the badges. - Skits were presented by mem bers of troop 24, led by Mrs. George Todd: troop 38, led by Mrs. B. L. Jones: troop 58. led by Mrs. V. A. Forstrom; troop 35, led by Mrs. Glen Snook; and two newly organized troops which have as leaders Mrs. Robert Wilson- and Mrs. H. E. Smith. A reading was given by Carolyn Snook, troop 35, and a tap dance by Sally Devlne, troop 24, and a piano solo by Bar bara Coen. SANTA CLARA CLUB il MEETS FOR DESSERT ! COUPLE, STARTS LONG JOURNEY TO COPENHAGEN Mr. and Mrs. Burnett Nielsen started this week for Copenhagen, Denmark, going by bus to Califor nia and planning to continue, with stops in Texas, Florida and South Carolina, on their way to New York City. They will sail Febra ary 28 on the Swedish liner Drott ningholm. The young couple's de parture was delayed about a week by the fire which occurred re cently at their home. Mrs. Jean Lyons will give a talk on Oregon history; Mrs. L. C. Dan iels will discuss juvenile delin quency, and Mrs. J. D. Sutton will take as her topic: "Parents' Re sponsibility Concerning Girl Scouts." Members brought clothing for needy French families. Final arrangements were made for the district meeting which will take place next Sunday.
