ed to tell drug store visitors the
remedy to take for various ail
ments has earned a San Francisco
druggist a citation for violation of
state health laws.
The state department of public
health tells the story:
"Thli pharmacist had con
structed an electrical selector,
similar to the well-known 'juke
box' on which a patron selects
various musical selections, and
had modified the gadget to show
a prospective purchaser the rem
edy to use for various ailments
or symptoms.
"His list included, to name but
a few: diabetes, falling memory,
gray hair, heart trouble, peptic
ulcer, sexual Impotence, and
tooth decay."
The same druggist also was cit
ed for selling boric acid tablets,
which cost 10 cents a bottle, as a
"weight reducing preparation,"
for $3.59 a bottle.

50th Anniversary
More than 2000 members of
Elks Lodges from all over Oregon
came to Eugene Saturday night to
assist the local lodge in its Golden
Anniversary celebration.
Main speaker was Robert S.
Farrell, Jr., secretary of state and
member of the lodge. He gave an
instructive talk on the trend of
current events, the responsibilities
of the lodge, and place of the
lodge in the community, pointing
out that all members must be ever
alert for subversive elements.
Farrell outlined the history of
the Elks Lodge in America, and
pointed out that it attracts a wide
variety of members, In both skill
ed and unskilled occupations.
Master of ceremonies was
Gerry Gaylord, of Eugene, who
Introduced charter members of
the local group. Judge L. T. Har
ris, charter member, gave a short
talk on the charter membership
and the beginnings of the Eugene
lodge.
A parade through downtown
Eugene was held Sunday after
noon by members and visitors
who remained in town. The
Portland Elks band led the pa
rade.

One of several numbers to be pre
sented by the band is the brilliant
"Arabian Nights Overture." The
choir will sing the "Pilgrims
Chorus" by Richard Wagner and
"Lost in the Night" with the solo
sung by Rose Young. The choir
and the band will join in the pre
sentation of O'Hara's "One
World."

two years ago. Survived by his wifn,
Mrs. Gladys Smith: one son Richard;
mother, Mrs. Sadie Laxton; brother,
Alfred Smith of Eugene; two sisters,
Mrs. Myrtle Humphrey, of Nashville,
Oregon, Mrs. Eleanor Terrlll, of
Springfield. He was a member of the
Elks Lodge. Funeral services will be
held at the Bartholomew-Buell Chapel

3 p. m. Rev. Claude O'Brien will offi
ciate with Interment In the Bell-
fountain Cemetery.
