Crippled Children's
Clinic Slated for Eugene
A crippled children's clinic will
be held March 26-27, between
9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the
Lane County Health Department,
in the courthouse.
Dr. C. Elmer Carlson, of the
University of Oregon Medical
School, will be in charge of the
clinic as orthopedic consultant.
Details relating to the clinic can
be obtained by contacting the
health department.

Flooring Being
Sent Abroad
Despite the fact that lend
lease officially as declared at an
end on V-J Day, 18,000,000 board
feet of hardwood lumber of the
type used as flooring in homes is
being shipped abroad because of
an agreement that goods being
manufactured and in transit
would be delivered.
That report came Thursday in
Congressman Hmris Ellsworth's
(R-Oie) weekly letter from
Washington.
"Believe it or not, we still are
shipping vast quantities of goods
on lend-lease commitments," he
wrote. "The countries receiving
lend-lease goods since the actual
end of the war have agreed to pay
for them aver a period of 30 days
at an interest rate of two and
three-eighths percent on the un
paid balance. This week an at
tempt was made to reduce the
faultless"

May Witness Atomic Tests
Ellsworth said he had been in
vited to witness the atomic bomb
tests this spring and that he
would do so if too much time is
not required and if there is a lull
in Congressional business.
The Congressman argued in
favor of using modern war ships
in the tests.
"It was argued on the floor by
a few members who are opposed
to the conduct of the tests that it
was wrong to destroy a number
of our ships, some o( which have
been completed less than two
years. The answer to this objec
tion was that we cannot tell
what sort of ships to have in our
future naval defease unless we
know definitely what happens to
ships when they are attacked with
atomic bombs.
