Smith was scheduled to be guest speaker at the Coos Bay Rotary club meet ing this Tuesday. Dr. Smith, head of the geology and geography de partment at the University of Oregon and one-time chief of the division of mines bureau in the Philippine Islands, will speak on the Philippines, discussing partic ularly the recently captured re gion of "Zamboanga" on Minda nao Island. W. B. Scott was in Eurene Tuesday from his home at Fall Creek and while here informed the county court that he has quit the job as weed control deputy for his district, after having served in that capacity for the past 12 years. He has been in charge of weed control work in the area from Jasper to Oakridge on the north side of the Willam ette river and from Lowell to Oakrldge on the south side, also along Wallace creek, Hills creek, Little Fall creek. Guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Grants Pass cham ber of commerce this Wednesday evening, March 14, will be Dr. I Victor P. Morris, dean of the business administration school of the University of Oregon. Dr. Morris will talk on "Economic Future of Oregon." Dr. A. R. Mrs. Freeman Day, secretary of the world war II history project of the state of Oregon and part time secretary at the department of anthropology In the University of Oregon, has resigned to accom pany her husband, Freeman Day, to New York where they will re side.
