' Mrs. OUIe Lindley reports hav ing heard from her son, Dale, who Is serving with a medical unit, stationed on a hospital ship In the Philippines area. He has been In the navy for three years, and has not been home for over a year. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fulton, re cently of California, are spending a week at Kitson springs. The Fultons purchased a farm east of Goshen last summer, and a fire destroyed their house last Novem ber. They plan to re-build as soon as priority ratings are established. Irving Grangers Report Meeting IRVING The regular meeting of Irving grange was held Friday with approximately 40 members present. A collection was taken for the polio fund and $7.80 re ceived. The lecturer's program presented by Mr. and Mrs. Kay' mon Johnson consisted of the fol lowing: Song, by the grange; two skits, "At the Ticket Office," by Mrs. Glover, Mr. and Mrs. Ross, snd Raymond Johnson, and "On a Busy Street Comer," by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harbour; readings by Mrs. Paul Plank and Mrs. Bart Flanlgan; game, "Cupid's Darts," by a team of men versus a team of women, the men being the win ners. The Home Economics club will hold a work meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 14. Ladles are to bring a sack lunch. The next regular meeting of the grange will be Friday, Feb. 23. with Mrs. Bishop, Mrs. Beeler and Mrs. De Young serving, and selling Pie. Scott, Mrs. Brooks. Garner, and Mrs. Reedsport Plans For Small Hospital REEDSPORT, Feb. 12 0P Plans tor a hospital here are going ahead even though the town Is without a single physician. A chamber of commerce com mittee met Saturday with an architect to discuss plans for a small hospital building on a city site acquired by the chamber. AT MARCOLA MARCOLA The Friendly Sew ing club met at the home of Mrs. Minnie Fischer last week. Desert was served. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. OTarrell on Feb. 14. Adelbert Troxel, who was 111 and In a hospital at the time his unit left for overseas duty, is now back to the Pcrific coast and Is at Ft. Ord, Calif. LaVern Troxel la still in Texas. His wife and daughter Just recently went back to Texas to be with him there. Dale Wright arrived home re cently on a 10-day furlough. He has been at Camp Roberts. Calif, and will report at Ft. Meade, Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. John Blum were called to Portland by the death of a sister of Mr. Blum. Mr. and Mrs. George Jacques and daUKhter of Springfield vis ited Mend In Mircola. Mrs. De loraj Pratt returned home with them to stay a week or more. The gate In the dam at the Mabel pond washed out early Thursday morning letting all the wntor out which caused the Mo hawk river to rise quite rapidly along with the heavy rain which fell during the night. Kenneth Werner recently left for San Francisco to Join t h e merchant marines. The grade school ball teams went to Wendllng Friday after noon where both the girls and boys teams played. The games were won by the Marcola teams. Mrs. Mary Hill recently re ceived a letter from her son, Virgil. He also sent her some souvenir Chinese money. Scout Anniversary Observed With Court REEDSPORT A court of hon or, in observance of the 35th an niversary of the founding of Boy Scouts of America, was held by troop No. 10, of Reedsport, troop 31, of Gardiner, last week in the Reedsport American Legion hall. Boys receiving the tenderfoot award were: Bobby Hull, Ken neth Brookhart, Jerry. Drewry and Ferdinand Bathke. Second in the first and second degrees. Mrs. Ed Graham of the home eco nomics committee announced that the regular meeting of the club will be held Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20 at the home of Mrs. C. I. Kent with Mrs. G. R. A demonstration of first aid was given by Robin Gay, Tom McAllister'. Keith Johnson, Ste ven Nlcholls, and Lloyd Archer, and a farewell gift of a fitted toilet case was presented Mr. Kalaher of Marshfield, assistant scout executive of Oregon Trail council of Southwestern Oregon, son Capt. Robert E. Sly who has recently been liberated from prison camp In the Philippines. The work program for the year was read. George Hayes, Roy St, Clair, Mrs. Ralph Rogers, J. P. Walker, Mrs. Graham, and F. L. DeBerry were appointed on the annual grange day committee. Mr. Hayes, master for the past year, was presented with a past mast er's pin, the presiding master, Donald Kabler, making the pre sentation. The county deputy,' Lennie Haldorson, Mrs. Haldor son, Mrs. Sanders of Wlllakenzie, and Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Patton of the Hebron grange were visitors and all gave short talks. The next Pomona grange meaning was an nounced for Feb. 24 at Junction City. For the program Mrs. Hayes presented the following numbers: song by the grange; accordion solos, Warren De La Vergne; games with prizes. Refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Spe cial music was furnished by a ladles' quartet, which was com posed of: Mrs. Harold Woodruff, Mrs. Don Kingsley, Mrs. R. L. Stoneberg of West Point; and Mrs. John Walls of Wlllakenzie. On Saturday evening, Feb. IT, the candidates will receive the third and fourth degrees at Wllla kenzie. Mrs. Ben Adair and Mrs. Har old Kurd are leaving for an ex tended trip of one month In the middle west and central portion of the United States. Mrs. Adair will be at Neosho, Missouri, where she can visit with her husband, Ben Adair, who is sta tioned at Camp Crowder. The senior class of the Mohawk high school gave a dinner at the IOOF hall, at Marcola, recently in honor of Gib Wilson, who has en listed in the navy and will leave in about 10 days. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wellman and family of Modoc Point, Ore., have moved into a company house on B-row. Two of the children have enrolled In the grade school and one has enrolled In high school.
