Mr. Scott was well known oy oiaer resiaenis 01 mis com munity having served as depot agent and telegraph operator at the Creswell station for several years. He was also active in mu sical organizations especially in the band. His brother, Charlie, alfo well known here died a few ye:irs ago. Mr. Scott was a brother ilso of the late Mrs. Carrie Shaub who lived for many years in Creswell. The regular meeting of the WSCS of the Methodist church was held last week at the church annex. A potluck luncheon was served at noon with 14 members present. Mrs. J. E. Smith presided at the business meeting. Devotions were in charge of Mrs. Charles Wetzel. Mrs. F. W. Ogram pre sented the program on "The Doors Arc Open" and post-war plans, several members assisting. Mrs. C. L. Camp, pastor, gave first hand news of the invasion of lands in the Pacific area. A contribu tion of $50 was voted toward the Crusade for Christ program, the nation wide project of the church, bazaar materials were distributed by Mrs. H. G. McDonah, chair man of the work committee. Host esses for the Dorcas circle for the vear also church hosts and decor ation committee were posted. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Ogram were ap pointed hosts until the next meet ing. Mrs. Frank Sly will care for church decorations. Hostesses for the Dorcas Circle Feb. 1 are Mrs. George W. Ross, Mrs. H. G. Mc Donah, and Genevieve Thompson. The regular meeting of the Presbyterian Aid society was held List week at the home of Mrs. A. C. Ross with Mrs. H. B. Gillespie and Dorothea Gillespie as host esses. CATHOLIC SOCIETY ELECTS MONROE The Catholic ladies of the Monroe St. Rose Altar so ciety met at the parish rectory the past week for a potluck dinner and business meeting. Yearly election of officers was held b.v the society at this time. Mrs. Frank Mahoney was elected to succeed Mrs. Roy Starr as president: Mrs. Stephen Gorarke was elected to succeed Mrs. Frank Mahoney as vice-president: and Mrs. Rose Rrillng was re-elected secretary treasurer. Meetings are being held at that place by Evangelist Willie White and his singer, Clifford Snyder. Snyder each evening makes a crayon picture illustrating one of the songs. The Neighborly Neighbors are planning an auction sale in the near future to start a fund to build a community house in this place. The sale is -to be held at Fall Creek schoolhouse. The Neighborly Neighbors club met this week at the home of Mr. Jack Palmer. Mapleton Notes MARCOLA Installation of of ficers of Royal Neighbors of America was held recently in the I.O.O.F. hall. Mrs. Colleen Garrison and daughter did not get to leave for St. Louis, Mo., as was reported due to the baby coming down with measles. The Marcola Sewing club met recently at the home of Mrs. Pearl Price. Guests were Nell Price and Mrs. Nellie Stevens. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Ray Garrett, Jan. 25. John Cremer, pharmacist mate 1c, who has been on New Geor gia Island, has arrived here to visit his sister. Jane Cremer. and Mr. and Mrs. Farrell. He is on his way home to Montana on leave. Sgt. Irvin Young arrived home this week to visit his mother, Mrs. Doris Young; and brothers. Bob and Bernard, and their families. Sergeant Young has been in the service about 3'-i years and been ut of the states for 33 months. He has been stationed for some Imc on New Caledonia island. He is on a 30-day furlough. The mill here has been down most of the week due to a broken shaft which had to be taken to Portland to be fixed. The Marcola Junior Mothers club met the past week with Frances O'Farrell. Visitors pres ent were Flora Stratton, Nellie Stevens, and Myrtle Saunders. Hearts were played. Next meet ing will be a Valentine party at 'Ima Faust's home Feb. 7. MAPLETON Mrs. Lucille Eu banks has returned from Little Hock, Ark., after spending the hol idays with relatives. Mrs. Arthur Jensen has returned home from Edgewood, Maryland. Her husband is being transfered and she will remain with her par ents for a time. Mr. and Mrs. George Burbach have moved to their home at Flor ence and Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Schultz have returned to take over their business. Mr. Schulti has been dismissed from the service. Mrs. Milton Hoff is visiting in lacoma. Wash., for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapman have gone to Texas for a vacation and a rest. They are cooks at Camp Jackson. Mrs. Tillle Thomas and Donna Lord are taking the Chapmjns place while they are gone. Mrs. Blanche Wheeler, sister of -Wesley Whittaker, Is In Mapleton for a few days. Mrs. Nita Brooks Is home on vacation before starting her new work as typist in civil service work in Seattle. Ernes; Camp is home on leave from sea duty. His brother, Sgt. Dan Camp, is expected to be home soon. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fiske of Waldpoi t have moved to Mapleton and are with the forest service here. William Whittaker of Seattle returned home after spending two weeks in Mapleton at the Whit taker home. At the regular meeting of Mlg non No. 105, Elaine Johnson was installed as noble grand and Viola Bernhardt as flag bearer, these of ficers being absent at the regular installation. There will be initia tion at the next meeting Feb. 6. All members are asked to attend. ELMIRA CLIB METTS ELMIRA The Friendly Neigh bor cluo met with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jansons recently. Each mem ber is requested to send a greet ing card to W. H. McAtee. who is a memiier of the club and has been shut in for some time. George Bromley was reported in the hospital. The Danish Brotherhood held a card party and dance in their hall last week. About 80 members and visitors enjoyed the evening. Guests from Eugene who also furnished a pro gram were Mrs. Harold Morten sen, Mrs. Mettje Hughes who played several violin numbers, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Comfort, who played the saxaphone and piano and Mrs. Lee Geddings who played the piano. This is the first time in three years Sergeant Lorang has been home to. visit and from the many service stripes it appears he has seen a lot of action in those three years.
