Moon, son of Rev. and Mrs. E. R. Moon, retired missionaries of Eugene; and of their son Pvt. Douglas A. Brown, to Miss Vir ginia Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mis. J. A. Taylor of Dur ham, North Carolina. Miss Brown graduated from Eugene high and the Bible Stan dard training school before en tering nurses training at Sacred Heart hospital. Mr. Moon is at tending Northwest Christian col lege. Miss Brown and Mr. Moon are preparing for medical mis sionary work. Pvt. Brown attended Eugene schools, University of Oregon, Multnomah school of the Bible In Portland, and was in the ASTP. at Oregon State college. He is a radio code operator and was home on furlough for a few days recently before going over seas. Miss Taylor is completing her senior year in high school, and is also employed in the newspaper office on the Duke university campus. No dates have been set for the weddings. TEA GIVEN SATURDAY AFTERNOON Members of Chapter AY, P.E. O. Sisterhood, were hostesses Saturday afternoon at a tea given in the parish hall of St. Mary's Episcopal church with members of Chapters H and AM, and un affiliated members as guests. Mrs. Genevieve Turnipseed was general chairman for the tea, and Mrs. John Cordell and Mrs. Fred Flock headed other major committees. Mrs. Earl M. Pallett and Mrs. Theodore Kratt received guests at the door. Mrs. Percy W. Brown and Mrs. J. W. Silva were hostesses about the room. For the program, Mrs. J. D. Bryant and Mrs. Phil Nordling of Chapter H, the Chapter AM trio, Mrs. J. M. Gravensteln, Mrs. Harry G. Talbot, and Mrs. E. E. Gray, and Mrs. L. H. John son of Chapter AM assisted. Mrs. E. A. Rowling, co-chairmen for the project to raise money for the University of Oregon Moth ers' club scholarship funds, re port to date the group has one hundred and sixty dollars In. It) ( I L , ; i i 1 1 I' ; i 1 Plummer-Tripp Yedding Sunday At a pretty wedding Sunday evening last, Miss Virginia Ann Tripp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tripp of Minneapolis, Minn., was married to Sergeant John A. (Jack) Plummer, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Plum mer of Eugene, the service being a double ring and candlelight one at the Plummer home here. Rev. J. L. Sawyer of the United Lutheran church officiating. The ceremony took place at six-thirty o'clock before the fireplace in front of which stood baskets of spring flowers and ferns and on the mantel of which were other flowers and candles. About forty-five relatives and close friends were present for the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carml chel of Portland attended the couple. The bride wore a gold colored crepe dress with matching hat, and her corsage was of white or chids with yellow throats. Mrs. Carmlchel wore a brown crepe dress with matching hat and cor sage of bronze flowers. For her son's wedding Mrs. Plummer wore a black velvet dress with corsage of purple or chids. For the music, Mrs. Gordon Tripp played the piano, the num bers including the wedding marches. Reception Held Following the service, an in formal reception was held. Mrs. W. E. Parrish poured and Mrs. Georglana White of Hollywood, Calif., aunt of the bridegroom, served the cake. Assisting with 'the serving about the room were Miss Wilda Parrish, Mrs. Will iam Wheeler, Miss Maxine Wheeler, Miss Eileen Wheeler. Mrs. Elizabeth Hooper and Mrs. Irene Carey assisted with the re ception, as did William Buell and Eugene Miller. Mrs. Carter Wilcox, aunt of the bridegroom, had charge of the' guest book. For traveling, the bride wore a fuchsia costume with black ac cessories and corsage of orchids. The couple will be at home at 524 Boylston N, Seattle, follow ing a trip to the coast. Sgt. Plummer is stationed at Fort Lawton, Wash. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon, be ing a member of phi Sigma Kap pa fraternity on the campus. John Allan Clarke of Sunnyside, Wash., was announced at an informal tea Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. S. E. Stevens. At the door the guests were given nosegay corsages in which were the names of the couple. Mrs. Wal ter Fiscus stood with Miss Brown to receive the guests. Mrs. Vernon Kullowatz and Mrs. Walter Naff poured. Miss Ethel Clarke sang "Always, and Mrs. Naff played several piano selections. LUNCHEON HOSTESS Mrs. Russell Yockey was hos tess at a luncheon Wednesday, honoring her daughter, Miss Lois Yockey, HA 1-c, Waves, and two other Waves, Misses Marguerite Welgant and Hazel Wells, both HA 1-c. Besides the three honor guests, others attending were Mrs. Wells, Mrs. Madeline Welg ant, Mrs. Wallace Dodge, Mrs. F. A. Macomber, and the hostess. Service Wives To Form Group A new organization Is being established in Eugene, an infor mal group to be known as the Service Men's Wives club, its purpose to provide some social activity and opportunity to make new friendships among the large group of women whose husbands are non-commissioned men in the army, navy, and marines. A preliminary meeting was held to promote the group, and a second meeting is arranged for the coming Tuesday evening as a dessert at eight o'clock in the Del Rey cafe banquet room. Invitation is extended to all wives of non-commlssloned men of all branches of the service. Those interested in attending are asked to call Mrs. Roy Malos, 4908-W to make reservations. Mrs. Glenn Sweeney is serving as temporary chairman, and is being assisted by a large group volunteering to aid in organiza tion, including Mrs. Robert Pin nick, Mrs. Delton Mann, Mrs. W. C. Koepke, Mrs. Fidelia Hansen, Mrs. Elvie Hall, Mrs. Jeff Hodges and others. Mrs. W. J. Gilmore from the Officers Wives club Is assisting the new group in organizational plans. VISIT FROM SALEM Visitors here over the week end are Major and Mrs. Vern W, Miller and daughters of Salem, guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Miller. Major Miller, a Salem doctor, recently returned from thirty-four months service In the south Pacific with the 41st divi sion and had been orthopedic surgeon with the 42nd general hospital. He leaves January 23 for Fort Sam Houston, Texas, for re-assignment. PARTY ON THURSDAY Mrs. Fred Hills and daughter, Mrs. J. H. Leabo, were hostesses Thursday evening at the Hills residence near Jasper at a party and shower to honor Mrs. Hills niece, Mrs. John Clayton. Jr., (Barbara Huntington). About forty were present. During the evening. Miss Geraldine Leabo played piano numbers. When re freshments were served, Mrs. Fred Flock and Miss Eva Smith poured. S. D. club will be entertained next Friday evening by Mrs. Roy B. Wilcox at her home in Springfield, seven-thirty o'clock. FORMER EUGENE AN WED IN KANSAS At a double-ring ceremony, December 2, in the Metropolitan Methodist church, Kansas City, Kansas, Miss Norma P. Bebblng ton of Kansas City and S-Sgt. George M. Keefauver, Jr., U. S. army air forces, formerly of Eu gene, were married. Rev. Russell Fosmire performed the ceremony at eight in the evening, before an altar flanked by tall candelab rums of white tapers against a setting of chrysanthemums and palms. John Bebblngton of Erie, Kan sas, gave his daughter in mar riage. The bride's white satin gown was fashioned on princess lines and fastened at the back with tiny buttons. Its sweetheart neckline was of lace as were the inserts in the long train. Her fingertip and blush veil were held In place by a crown of seed pearls. She wore a neck lace of pearls and carried a bouquet of white mums. Mrs. Margaret Combs was ma tron of honor for her sister. The bridesmaids were Miss Mary Heckman, Miss Lois Bris tow. Miss Virginia McCauley, Miss Madge Partonnar, Miss Geraldine Hoke and Mrs. Jack Burnham. Marilyn Nelson was flower girl. Little Larry Combs, nephew of the bride, carried the rings on a white satin pillow. The tapers were lighted by Misses La Verne Wilson and Barbara Jano Woods. Virgil W. Duval, cousin of the bride groom's mother, was best man. Ensign Lelnnd Rlchey, U. S. N. A. C, Major Joseph F. Glcch, Louis Heckman and Melvin K. Neff were ushers. After the ceremony a recep tion was held at the home of Mrs. R. G. Bebblngton, grand mother of the bride, where the bride has made her home the past few years. Scholarship Set Up For Nursing A scholarship for pre-nursing students at the University of Oregon, to stimulate interest In the nursing profession, Is being offered by the State Federation of Womens clubs, it is announced by Dean Karl W. Onthank, head of personnel administration. A sum of one hundred fifty dollars is mane available with the prom ise that one hundred fifty dol lars more would be given if In terest warranted it. Dean Onthank also announced that the Oregon Mothers club has established a sum to be used as scholarships for pre-nurslng wo men students. Both scholarships have been offered so that university women interested In nursing may have an opportunity to obtain their educational background and be able to help fill the vital short age of nurses.
