Wayne McNulty HEADQUARTERS, 41 ST DIVI SION, SOUTHWEST PACIFIC Tech. Sgt. Wayne J. McNulty, son of Mrs. J. C. McNulty, 1676 Twenty-fourth Avenue east, has been awarded the bronze star medal for meritorious achieve ment and personal valor and ini tiative on the field of combat. The decoration was bestowed upon the platoon sergeant by Major Gen. Jens A. Doe, commander of the famed 41st infantry division, at a ceremony held here. During a phase ot recent oper ations against the Japs, it became necessary for McNulty's battalion to execute a strategic withdrawal, and his platoon was chosen to se cure the rear during the move ment. By means of constant control over his men and complete coor dination with other units, the withdrawal was excellently ef fected. His handling of his pla toon made it impossible for the enemy to interfere with the gen eral movement. By so disposing his men, he prevented possible disorganization and stopped all at tempts of the Japs to break through. McNulty's work was termed by his commanding offi cer "a masterpiece of rear-guard action." gene, It serving as an admtni- trative section chief with a bomb ardment group, which recently was awarded a second war de partment citation for outstanding performances in the Mediterran ean theatre of operations.
