Mo.(UJ Two rings on a party line phone and the two words "Washington calling" were all Mrs. Wanda Holzbaur needed here to tell her that Vice-President HenrV A. Wal lace was calling' to tell her about his visit with her husband in a western China hosnital where Wallace visited recently. . She had learned In a news dis patch from China that .Wallace had visited with her husband, Sgt. George H. Holzbaur, Jr., and had promised to phone his wife as soon as he arrived back in this country. The 18-year-old wife and moth er picked up the phone and then waited anxiously until a man's voice stated, "This is Henry Wal lace." Mrs. Holzbaur proceeded to ask the vice-president about her huS' nana, a o-aa gunner who was wounded in a recent raid over Japan in which the remainder of the craw members lost their lives. Wallace told Mrs. Holzbaur that her husband had received "65 per cent Durns, the kind very few re cover from." A city charter amendment mak ing the city manager administra tive head of the city also was passed. He was given power to appoint ' all other city officials except the city recorder, who will be elected by the city council. Berlin Expects Patron To Command Invaders LONDON (U.R) The Berlin radio said recently that new land. ings would be made soon by an army commanded by Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr., and that the drive would mark the begin ning of an' all-out allied assault in the west. Berlin claimed that the force to be led by Patton, who com manded the U. S. Seventh armv in the Sicilian campaign, would be tne "British southeast army." Berlin did not state whether that would be a British army led by an American general or merely an army being formed in south eastern Britain. "The military situation In Nor mandy and the east shows that we rapidly are heading toward the climax of the enemy attack against Europe and that we'll reach the climax of that storm in the near future," the enemy broadcast said. Convention to Get FDR Name July 20 CHICAGO (U.R) President Roosevelt's name will be placed in nomination before the demo cratic nation convention, along with the names of other posible candidates, the night of July 20, according to a tentative schedule adopted by the national commit tee. Vice presidential nominations will be made the same evening " time permits. National Chairman Robert E. Hannegan will open the conven tion at noon July 19, and Gov. Robert S. Kerr, Oklahoma, will give the keynote address that night. Ration List On Farm Equipment To Be Cut WASHINGTON OP) Increas ed farm machinery production has made it possible to reduce from 31 to 19 the types to be left on the ration list after July 20, the war food administration said. Overall farm machinery produc tion is now at an annual level which approximates production in 1940 a better than average year and maintenance of output at this level for the 12 months be. ginning July 1 is anticipated. The 19 types of implements which will continue to be rationed include: Combines, corn binders, corn pickers, manure spreaders, mow ers, side-delivery rakes, hay load- ers, pick-up hay balers, tractors, grain drills, potato planters, potato diggers, silo liUers, irrigation pumps, power sprayers, garden tractors, deep and shallow well water systems, power pumps and farm milk coolers.
