In the screened version of an old play by George S. Kaufman and Herman Mankiewicz, "The Good Fellows," he is the grand Caesar ot an organization called the Ancient Order of Noblest Romans, Wakefield encampment. He"g so fascinated by lodge work that his business suffers, his bills pile up, his mother-in-law becomes franker than she used to be, and his family decide they had better desert the sinking ship before they, too, are drowned in Father's perpetual good fellowship. Kathleen Lockhart plays his wife, . Mabel Paige her mother, self-conscious Diana Hale his baby daughter and Helen Walker his grown-up daughter. James Brown carries on a romance with pretty Miss Walker (the ingenue who made a USO tour with Buck Buchanan last summer). Most of this has the clumsy framework of a high school play. But it should hand lots of laughs to anybody who has a joiner in his family. The lodge goings-on and ritual are so broadly bur lesqued that no one will take of- j fense. For example, the official greeting is "Eternal shall be our love, O brother!" Maybe the moral to this one is "When in Rome (or Wakefield), do as the Romans do but don't overdo it!" One of James Cagney's reissued efforts, "The Oklahoma Kid," tops the bill. The cast lists Humphrey Bogart (this was made in the days before he smoothed out his English to become a lover), Rose mary Lane, and Donald Crisp. It's one ot the better westerns, sort of Warner Brothers succotash. For some reason, watching it, we kept expecting Errol Flynn to dash gallantly from behind a cactus, pull his shootin' irons, fire once, and gallop away toward Okla homa City with Olivia DcHavil land clinging on for dear life.
