had eight days leave from the nav
al training station at Camp Farra
gut, Idaho, has been visiting his
family here.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Lee and son
visited friends here Sunday, Mr.
Lee used to teach at the Lone Pine
grade school.
Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Spencer' of
Palouse, Wash., stopped at the G.
W. Robinson home recently on
their way to Palouse from Mis
souri. Spencers ' were early resi
dents ot Lone Pine and formerly
owned the Piquet place. Miss Juoy
Ann Robinson, granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, was a re
cent guest at her grandparents.
Mrs. W. A. Piquet was hostess
to the Santa Clara Thimble club
at her home recently. The after
noon was spent In visiting. Guests
ot the club were Mrs. Elgin Bail
or, Mrs. Cliff Abrams, and Mrs.
Lester Gunson and Rodney Dean.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert . Nyce of
Seattle are now at the home of
Mrs. Nyce's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
N. M. Lassen.

GOES TO NAVY
THURSTON Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Russel have word that their son,
Ben, who lives at Pasadena, Calif.,
haa left for the U.S. navy service
being an ensign. He has been sent
to the University of Arizona for
a period and then will be at home
for a tew days and plans to come
to Thurston for a short visit be
fore taking up his duties at Treas
ure Island where he will be sta.

Aid held an old time basket so
cial at the grange hall recently. A
sum of $22.95 was added to the
treasury. A program, consisting of
songs, by the group, a monologue,
readings, and a tableau, was given.
Taking part in the tableau were
Roger Soderstadt, Alma Hum
phrey, and Joy Wallace with
Yvonne Murphey at the piano and
Mrs. Grace Jones and Gertrude
Humphrey singing. .
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Laird
are receiving congratulations on
the arrival of a 8.3 pound son,
Robert Paxton, who arrived on
February 13. He is the grandson
of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Higgins
and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Laird of
Jasper.
Mrs. Arthur Ruthven has receive
ed word from her son, Virgil New
ton, that he is now located at
Camp Frances E. Warren at Chey.

Eldred, who is in the navy, stat

he was killed in action the next
day after their meeting.

Croston left recently for service
In the army air forces. At Grand
Rapids, Michigan, he will enter
school of meteorology. After a 22
weeks course ha will be commis
sioned as a second lieutenant and
will receive an assignment as an
instructor. Mr. Croston has been
at Mohawk two years. He was
coach of the- athletic program.
Mrs. Croston will remain at Wend
ling for a while.
