Buchanan Opposes Nov. 3 Passage Of Tax Diversion Bill The state of Oregon must levy a tax of $1,300,000 on property next year if the income tax di version bill is approved by the voters at the November election, it was declared Wednesday in a statement released by Claude Bu chanan, president of the Oregon Taxpayers federatiori. Last year the entire levy of $8, 100,000 was paid by income taxes and if a ceiling of $7,750,000 is placed on the use of income taxes for state purposes, then the differ ence of $1,300,000 must be made up with a levy upon real property, and this will incresse in later years, said Mr. Buchanan. Representative taxpayers throughout the state have express ed their opposition to the bill, said Mr. Buchanan. "We are at War, and this should be our supreme ef fort. Income taxes should be re served for one purpose only, to further reduce property taxes, the better to enable all taxpayers to fnrnieh th sineua Of war in the form of certain greatly increased I federal taxes."
