market resistance levels were softened !
a bit today with a recurrence of pres
sure on steels, aircraft and Industrial
blue chips and losses of fractions to a
point or more were established over a
wide front Volume was around 600,000
shares.
One of the firmer share performers
was Patlno Mines which edged up a
point or so at one time. The stock has
been prominent lately in connection
with reports of elareed himnt tin
from its mies In Bolivia to the United'
aiaies to maKe up in part for sup
plies cut off by war In the orient.
Du Pont and J. C. Penney slipped to
new 1941-42 lows. Others in 4h mlnti
division included U. S. Steel, Bethlehem,

American Telephone, Westlnghouse. Dow

cial) A family reunion, celebrat
ing the 84th birthday of Lafe Prin
del, was held Sunday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Prindel in
Swisshome. Lafe Prindel has
lived in Oregon since 1893. He
homesteaded on Five Rivers,
where he lived until 1939. He now
liv with his son Harry and fam-
ilv at Canary. Present at the
birthday dinner were Mr. and Mrs.
H. S. Trindel of Eugene, Mrs. Effie

health office with Dr. Vern Web
ber in charge, assisted by Mrs.
George Albright, Mrs. Howard

New Officers Named
HARRISBURG, Jan. 21. (Spe
cial) The W. S. C. S. met at the
home of Mrs. J. W. Owen. Mrs. Ina
Kirschman presided. Mrs. A. L.
Darling presented the lesson and
Mrs. Zona Rexroad led the devo
tionals. Officers were elected. The
complete list of officers for the
year is as follows: President, Mrs.
Ina Kirschman; vice president,
Mrs. Zona Rexroad; recording sec
retary, Mrs. Ray Warren; treas
urer, Mrs. Ina Hughes; corre
sponding secretary, Mrs. Fred Go
forth; secretary of missions, Mrs.
A. L. Darling; secretary of local
church activities, Mrs. J. W. Owen;
secretary of young people's group,
Mrs. Eva Spurlin; secretary of lit
erature and publications, Mrs. Alex
Elliott; secretary of supplies, Mrs.
Rexroad; chairman of fellowship
committee, Mrs. H. K. Vannice;
pubUcity, Mrs. Ina Hughes. At the
close of the business meeting re
freshments were served. The next
meeting will be Feb. 12, at the
home of Mrs. DarUng.
Burl and Warren Brown of the
Boeing plant,' accompanied by the
Misses Karen and Ruth Jacobson
of Seattle, spent the week-end
with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.
L: Brown.
Funeral services for M. D. Mor
gan of Florence, were held at the
Masonic cemetery near Harris
burg, Sunday, the Masons in
charge. Mr. Morgan was editor
of the Harrishurg Bulletin for a
number of years, selling out in
1924. He continued to work on
the paper here until 1927 when he
moved with his family to Florence
where he edited the Siuslaw Oar.
Gordon Sasse and family have
taken an apartment in the Steven
son building and Gordon will as
sist with the work at the Bulletin
office until the editor, Mr. Chris
tian, has recovered from his ill
ness. Mr. Christian and family
have moved from Eugene and are
now occupying the George Hall
house recently vacated by W. J.
Price.
Tom Carr moved his family and
rtls household goods" to Portland
the first of the week. Mr. Carr
has employment there in a gov
ernment shop.

Mrs. Treasa Alexander returned
Sunday from Portland where she
has been visiting with her daugh
ter since before the holidays,
Veterans of Foreign Wars are
planning a card party at their hall,
lust north of town. Friday evemng.
Lunch will be served. Tickets are
now being sold. Meeting days for
the local veterans have been
changed to the second and third
Fridays.
Bob Treffry Is hauling gravel
from Reedsport for the new city
weU being dug near the present
pump house. The gravel is put
around the outside of the concrete
culverts to keep sand from work-
turned last week from Everett,
Wash., where they had spent sev
eral days with their son, Charles
Morris, who is stationed with the
army there.
Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Davidson
report that their son, Hillis, who
enlisted last October is now sta
tioned at a government technical
air communications school at Scott
Field, Illinois. Hillis will finish
his training some time in March.
The Past Noble Grands club will
meet Friday at the home of Mrs.
H. K. Vannice. Members are ask
ed to bring their thimbles and
scissors and pieces of outing flan
nel. The club will work on quilts
for the Red Cross this year.
