Hollywood producer, whose cur
rent comedy, "Broadway Limited,
is coming to the McDonald Wed
nesday, is . an ardent sport fan.
He has often been called Cali
fornia's most sport-minded citizen.
As organizer and president-of the
Los Angeles Turf Club, the suc
cess of Santa Anita Park, with
Its $100,000 handicap and other
stellar features, attracted interna
tional attention.
He is an enthusiastic polo player,
but he is keenest about hunting
nd fishing. He has shot Kodiak
bear in Alaska and bagged limits
of quail in Mexico.. His fishing
excursions have taken him to all
parts of the world. Earlier In life,
Roach was sear the top at tennis
and handball, and also tried his
hand at boxing and wrestling. At
school he went ta for track, base
ball and football and is still an ar
dent follower of these sports.
Roach was bom in Elmirs, New
York, and finally reached Cali
fornia after a period- ta Seattle
and Alaska, in both of which
places he worked on odd jobs.

It was very embarrassing day
for Milton Berle. He wss en the
'Sun valley Serenade (which
comes to the McDonald Wednes
day) set at- 20th Century-Fox,
with more than a hundred extras
and a double crew present. Sonja
Henie, John Payne, Lynn Bart
and even Director H. Bruce Hum-
berstone were taking advantage of
the large audience to Hit Berle is
revenge for the many gags he
had pulled en them.
While he was before the cam
eras, they threw back at hint the
many gags with which he had
plagued them before to the great
enjoyment of the extras.
Lynn Earl drew a hearty laugh
when Berle tripped over cable.
Her interpretation was that he
was trying to "chew the scenery,"
But Berle finally got even with
Lynn when she started to
hearse her song number with
Glenn Miller and his Band. Every
time she took a bream between
phrases, the veil she was wearing
would be Inhaled between her
teeth.
" They tried tying and pinning it
tighter, but finally had to put
a wire In It to stiffen it before
they could get a fake.
"Try a muzzle," Berle yelled
from the sidelines. "She's fee
only actress in captivity who
chews her own wardrobe."
From then on, Lynn left Milton
Eerie strictly alone.
