Scattered sales were closed at prices mostly steady compared with transactions earlier In the week. Fine and one-fourth blood wools were re ceiving the largest part of the limited demand. Combing one-fourth blood was selling at 83-87 cents scoured basis, for territory wools and 4.1-47 cents in the grease for bright fleece wools. An occa sional carload of fine bright Delaine fleece wool was selling at 41-43 cents in the grease. CLOSE FIGURING CLEVELAND (P) Sports writ ers thought maybe Bob Feller was just being modest a short while ago when he said he doubted if a modern pitcher could win more than 28 games a year. The way Bob was ging, the experts fig ured he was sure for 30 or more. But Feller bumped into trouble in late July and August and may have to stretch himself to get those 28 he promised. SIGN LANGUAGE KINGSTREE, S. C. (Pi These Kingstree ball players are the sly ones. When they disliked a deci sion of Palmetto League umpire San Sturgeon in their game with Sumpter they didn't go racing out brandishing bats and hurling in vectives. They slipped a "Help the Blind" sign on the ump's back. ' Sunbeam Shavemaster For Close, Clean, Comfort Shaves "Man. This Is It." SIGWART ELECTRIC CO. .r 956 Willamette t 3' . Teeter, seeking an injunction to force the city to col lect that interest. Mayor Chandler's statement is as follows: "In answer to the recall peti tions directed at me I wish to say that I am well pleased to have the Question as to whether I should serve as Mayor of the City of Springfield tried before the people, While I am sure that the spon sors of this petition have stretched a point in their allegations, I feel that I am well enough known for the people to judge the truth. "It has been my policy to try and keep foreign owned corpora' tions from meddling in local city affairs and I would rather take an interest in city affairs as viewed from the standpoint of the people who own the city than from the view taken by the Mountain States Power company who are only interested in what they can take out of our city. Recently when initiative peti tions were being circulated which would permit the city to take over and operate its own utilities in order that we might have good drinking water, the Mountain States Power company, through Mr. Severt Jacobson, circulated other initiative petitions on water and sewage disposal in order to cloud the issue to be presented by the first initiative petition. The date requested by citizens sighing the first petition was August 5th, 1941, fAjid the date on the Jacob son petitions was set for later in the year, November 4, 1941, and two days before the time of the council meeting it was known on the streets that a clique on the council intended to deny the re quest of the petitioners and refuse to call an election for August 5th. It is interesting to note that Cocucilmen Privat and Kendall voted to cancel all the interest in amount of $64.00 from Mr. Severt Jacobson assessment.
