VjjEWS NOTES - Veach of Coburg plan to leave, early next week for Omaha, Neb., to attend the national convention of the United Spanish War Veter ans and auxiliary. Mr. StauMer is past department commander of the U.S.W.V. and Mrs. Stauffer is department president of the aux iliary and national a'de. Dr. Bu chanan is commander of the Cot tage Grove camp and Mrs. Veach is president of the Eugene auvili ary. The convention meets August 17' to 21. ( . Mining-. Activity Noted The H. and M. Mining company, owning 'the Champion properties in the Bohemia district, is very active there, according to Ben Pitcher of DIsston, who was in Eugene Tuesday. The company has been hauling machinery to the property for some time past and is improving the road leading to the mines. Vetch Seed Yield Good The yield of Willamette vetch seed in Lane county is good this year, O. S. Fletcher county agent, reported Wednesday. On Tues day, the agent took samples from 12 farmers In the vicinity of Junction City for certification. Their total acreage was 101 and the total yield was 41,564 pounds of the seed, an average of 411 pounds to the acre. Government to Bay Horses The remount service of the United States government will again buy horses for the army, be ginning September 1, according to notice received Wednesday by O. S. Fletcher, county agent. The animals probably will be receiv ed at the barns of F. H. Stlckley and son at the Intersection of highway 99 and the Elmlra road.
