(Special) A three-act comedy, "Lady Be Good," will be presented two nights, Aug. 15 and 16, in the W. O. W. hall by the Little Theater club with Miss Shirley Harrold as director. Characters in the play are: Chester Elliot, Myrna Miller, Bob Miller, Nieta Ziniker, Roberta Syphers, Adeline Holle mon, Leonard Ziniker, Monte Johnson, Frank Redding, Esther Stratton and Lucile Kent. The following committees are in charge: Advertising, Mrs. Roy Miller, J. A r . . ,.,. T-lalA 7.fn. iker. George Gwyther; make-up, Marguerite Danstrom; tickets, Mary Ziniker, Billy Hoagland, Harriet Ingram; ushers, Jean Go heen, Margaret Gwyther. The scheduled picnic ol the Camas Swale club will be held at the new clubhouse Sunday, the members entertaining their fam ilies. Tools for the cleaning of the grounds shall be brought by those attending. Dinner will be served during the noon hour. The new tables will be initiated at this bas ket dinner. Fred Streeter of Santa Barbara, Cal., is visiting his brothers, Ar thur and George Streeter, and sis ter, Mrs. R. F. Scott. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Hoagland and son, Bobby, made a trip to Seattle, Wash., over the week-end. They visited their son and brother, Billy Hoagland, who is working in the Boeing aircraft company plant and also with Mrs. Hoagland's brother, Will Napper and family. Frank Redding and Kenneth Coleman, members of the 1941 class of the Creswell high school, enrolled at the vocational educa tion school in Eugene Wednesday. m If :0m JUDY, HUSBAND RETURN HOME Judy Garland, singing screen star, and her husband, Musician Dave Rose, returned to Hollywood by plane from Las Vegas, Nev., where they were married by a justice of the peace in a surprise elopement, Blue River Notes Bean Picking Starts COBUHG, Aug. 1. (Special) Bean picking commenced in the Stuart Hurd yard, Thursday morn ing. The Mishler and Reynolds yards have both started picking also. Most of the yards are be. sinning their harvest now, al though there are a lew that will not start picking for a few weeks yet. The Methodist Aid met in the social room of the church the past week. The time was spent in quilting. Mrs. Alice Fletcher, of Bend, was an out-of-town visitor. Miss Mickey Grant, of Astoria, is a guest of Miss Margaret Kizer. This is Miss Grant's first visit in the country. (Spe-I cial) Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Mulvahill of Pasadena, Calif., have purchased the Carpenter place, located on the Delta road, below the mouth of Horse creek, on the McKenzie. They are making extensive im provements on the cottage and grounds. Mrs. Mulvahill is presi dent and Mr. Mulvahill, secretary of the Coolidge Rare Plant Gardens in Pasadena. Mrs. Mulvahill was formerly from Eugene, and she and Mr. Mulvahill are regular summer vacationists on the Mc Kenzie. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. McAlister weret their son, Dr. E. D. McAlister of Washing ton, D. C, and Mrs. McAlister's niece, Mrs.' Henry Neufeld and twin daughters. Nancy and Martha of Concord, Calif. Dr. McAlister maae the trip by airplane. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Muham and son, Dick, of Los Angeles, have spent the past two weeks at the Kylo cottage on Blue river, leav ing Thursday for points of interest in Washington before returning to their home. A. A. Jones spent five days with the Milhams. recently returning to his home in Los An geles. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Brooks have recently moved from the Wake field property to the Kylo prop erty, known as Camp Cascade. (Special) The Bellfountain men's club will meet on Thursday afternoon, August 7, at the home of Mrs. William Bloor, for the first meetinz in two months, as the July meeting was dispensed with because of other activities. The Bellfountain grade school Four-H sewing club met at the home of Mrs. G. M. Gragg recent ly. Mrs. Leta M. Davis is leader of this club. Guy Hansen has received news of the death of his father at Camas, Wash. Mr. Hanson formerly lived near Franklin. Miss Jean Yarborough from near Seattle, is visiting her grand father, Pete Akerson, and aunt, Miss Minnie Akerson. Grase has accented the job as night watchman at the G. M. Gragg mill, north of Bell fountain, and commenced work on Monday. He and Mrs. Gragg plan to move to their home one mile north of Bellfountain, in the near future, after an absence of several years spent in Linn county. Funeral services were held at the Bellfountain church on Thurs. day afternoon for the late James P. Larkin of Monroe. Mr. Larkin had been a resident of the Bell fountain community for a number of years before moving to Monroe. Rev. Mr. Cooklngham of Monroe conducted the service, under the direction of the Keeney funeral home of Corvallis. Dr. and Mrs. Clayton of San Francisco, Calif., visited Tuesday at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Starr and Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Bain. Dr. Lyon is a nephew of Mrs. Starr and Mrs. Bain. Garden Club Event WALDPORT, Aug. 1 (Special) The Garden club will meet Aug. 5 at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Payne of Beaver Creek. Mr.' and Mrs. Dave Hall are the parents of twin baby girls. Mrs. Hall and new arrivals are at the Waldport Community hos pital. The Waldport theater was to open Friday under new manage ment, Leo Goodman. The bu ris ing has been renovated and paint ed. The Lions auxiliary met and In stalled new officers at their last meeting this week. Mrs. John Guthbrod and Mrs. Bess Wolsifer were hostesses at the former's home. Visitors at the Heath home are Mrs. Heath's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Dudley, also her brother and wife and two small children. All are from Genere, Nebraska.
