EUGENE, OREGON Pageant Preview FeaturesWeek At Playground, Top Floor Show A Pageant Preview week at the , Playground will highlight enter tainment circles starting today. The pre-pageant festivities actual ly began Saturday night, with Mo zelle the Sally Rand of France and Ripley's Jean Carr, the lass who sits on her own head and walks around her own body, be ing featured in the floor show conducted by Jack Randall, who heads the troupe. Tonight will be lady's guest night at The Playground, with all ladies admitted free to the floor show and other entertainment. Tuesday the spotlight will be taken over by Princess Mary Sue Jackson, for whom the women's service clubs and the lumbermen are sponsoring a dance. Thursday the Engineer's club will take over The Playground in order to finance their floats in the Pageant parades, July 24 and 25. A typical July 4 celebration will feature Thursday's program, with old-fashioned fireworks, swim ming, boating, and regular shows in the evening. Saturday, July 5th, a men's beauty contest will be held. The winner will be selected on the basis of the best beard, neatest waistline and prettiest ankle, with 12 female judges deciding the WITH BETTER SLEEP wims FURNITURE champion who will be given a prize of 50,000 contest votes. LeRoy Peterson Dies Saturday At Home LeRoy Peterson, for many years active In veterans' organizations in Eugene, died early Saturday at his home, Seventeenth and Wil lamette, at the age of 45 years. He was born Oct. 23, 1895, In Shelton, Wash., and married Lettia Elenora Mattison in Minneapolis on May 8, 1920. They had lived In Eu gene for 18 years. Mr. Peterson served with the 353rd infantry in the World war. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled Amer COMPANY 7unt 19, 194T. ican Veterans and the Command- era' Council of Lane county. He was recently elected district com mander of the V. F. W., and served as commander of Willamette post, No. 293, V. F. W., in 1939-40. He was also a past, commander of the Commanders' Council. Surviving Mr. Peterson are his ' wife; a son, Larry; his mother, Mrs. Ella C. Peterson; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Clark of Eugene, Mrs. Wallace Early of Frederic, Wis., Mrs. Harold Olson of Luck, Wis.; four brothers, Delmer of Sparta, Wis., Stanley of Albany, Herman 1 of Dallas, Earl of Spokane. He was ' a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services will be an nounced by the Branstetter-Simon chapel.
