Discussion was held on Red Cross enrollment any army service for nurses. Among tne speakers were Gladys Badger, director of nursing for the Pacific branch of the American Red Cross. and Captail Emily Weder, assist ant to the superintendent of the army nurses corps. Discussing enrollment in Red Cross service, Mrs. Leffingwell states that of the 100 nurses in Lane county, only eight are in the first reserve of the Red Cross, which makes them eligible for army or navy service, and that there are about 18 in the second reserve, or home defense. Before being eligible for army or navy service, nurses must be registered with the Red Cross, and must pass an army examina tion before being accepted for active service. Nurses may now go into foreign service,, which means work in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Alaska or . the Philippines.
