The Workers' circle of the Wo man's council of the Christian church met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Amil Thies. AT FLORENCE FLORENCE, June 6 (Special) Word was received Thursday there would be no Civilian Pub lic Conservation camp located at Florence. Regular meeting of the I. O. O. F. was held Wednesday evening. Not enough members of the port commission were present for a quorum Wednesday so the busi ness was laid over until the next meeting. Girl Scouts Plan Summer Program JUNCTION CITY, June 8. (Special) The high school Girl Scouts troop met with their leader, Mrs. Dixon at her home on Wed nesday evening. Plans were made for the summer activities. Several of the members of the troop will spend time at Camp Cleawox opening July 6. The troop voted to give one of the members a week's outing at Camp Cleawox and Charlotte Jenson was selected for that honor. Mrs. Chris Christensen was sur prised Wednesday evening when after retiring she answered a rap at her door and found five of her sisters had arrived to make her a visit. The visitors were Mrs. Hans Wogensen and Mrs. Frank Jinkens both of St. Andrews, Wash., Mrs. Hubert Wormer, Weston, Ore., Mrs. Earl Jinkens, Walterville, Wash., Mrs. Dave Harris of Lake Chelan, Wash. Mrs. Wogensen had to make a hurried business trip to Portland. She gathered up her sisters and they came to Junc tion City and spent the night with Mrs. Christensen. returning home Thursday morning. The Evergreen Rebekah lodge is making preparations for the cele bration of the 50th anniversary. The committee in charge of ar rangements met this week and de cided to hold this celebration the evening of July 8. The committee included Mrs. O. K. Wright, chair man, Mrs. Roy Kennedy, Mrs, Florence Calvert, Mrs. Chris Wilde and Mrs. Clarence Harpole. Don Dunn, custodian of the Union high, went to Parkdale Thursday with Mr. Furvine, assis tant state supervisor of vocational department. On Friday Mr. Dunn was to demonstrate modem meth' ods of floor finishing and build ing care, before a gathering pf janitors. Mrs. Dunn accompanied him as far as Corvallis where she will visit friends. Friends and neighbors are invited. The joint commencement for the Coburg high school and eighth grade graduates was held in the school auditorium, Wednesday evening. The program included the following numbers: proces sional, by Miss Mary Bailey; in vocation by Rev. Clark S. Enz, pastor of the Coburg Methodist church; salutatory, by Lucille Parsons; song by the girls' chorus; valedictory, by Jean Pitkin; song by the high school mixed chorus; address, "What Shall I Do Now?" by Dr. Elmo Stevenson, of Oregon State college; presentation of diplomas, by Alfred C. Johnson, superintendent; benediction, by Reverend Clark S. Enz; and re cessional, by Miss Mary Bailey. High school graduates include: Lucille Barrows, Arlene Cook, Irene Gustafson, Alvis Joranger, Dorothy Pennington, Jean Pitkin, Helen Riggs and Dale Whitaker. Eighth grade graduates include: June Brechtel, Hazel David, Patsy Jones, Florence Rosacher, El Dora Whitaker, Lloyd Cook, Sheldon Hawes, Donald Moser, Joan Smith David Woodruff and Eleanor Young. Club Meets The Willing Workers club met at the home of Mrs. Gerald Wil son, Tuesday afternoon. Work for the afternoon consisted of sewing on quilt blocks for bundles for Britain. Two contests were held in which Mrs. Hal Harrington and Mrs. Charles Stallings were the1 winners. Mrs. Martna wnltaKer was presented with a birthday gift from her unknown friend. Visitors present were: Mrs. Bob Geer, Miss Mildred Geer and Miss Belva Jean Garman, of Cottage Grove; Mrs. Elizabeth Endicott, of Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Elvin Taylor and Mrs. S. B. Hurzeler, of Coburg. Mrs. Frank Rice was hostess for a party, recently at her home hon oring Mrs. Pearl Wheeler, Mrs. Fred Manley, Mrs. Fred Stauffer and Mrs. Kenneth Gustafson, who have moved into the neighborhood a short time ago.
