Plana were completed for the seriei of lectures which Sam Gordon, the Kibitzer, is giving at .the Masonic temple on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon! 'and evenings of this week. These '. lectures are sponsored by the Rainbow Girls as a means of. rais ; ing money. Following the business t meeting a formal public installa tion held. Miss Geraldine Kern 'was installing officer and Miss )Anna Marie Peterson, installing marshal. The girls presented Miss Kern, retiring worthy adviser, with .a white Bible. Mrs. Lynch Currin was presented a white Bible In ' appreciation of her work as mo- ther adviser. Miss Kern, Miss Pe 'terson and Mrs. Bjorset each re ceived several gifts. Talks were given by Mrs. Wilbur Workman, Mrs. Clyde Roberts, Mrs. Georg Bjorset and Frank White. The next meeting of the group will be .held on February 10. ". The Townsend club met Monday 'evening in the Townsend hall for a social evening. The meeting was I opened with a piano solo by Mrs. Nellie Blackmort, followed by the flag salute and group singing. The 'following program was presented: Duet, Mrs. Mamie Gldney and !Mr. Joe Safley; two numbers by .the ladies' chorus accompanied by 'Mrs. Blackmore: readings by R. L. Bailey, Mrs. Fanny Goude, Mrs. Nellie Blackmore, Mrs, Sally Hill, and Mrs. Ethel Applewhite; piano solo by Mrs, Charles Slmklns; a skit by Mrs. Martha Marsh and Mrs. Kate Adams; duet, Mr. and Mrs, Harry Hart; Indian war dance, by Pete Briton and W. E. Masters, Ray Potts, L. D. Tucker and Elmer J. Kent; piano solo, ;Mrs. Harry Wheeler of Eugene; two flash bulletins from Washing ton, D. C, read by W. E. Masters, two poems read by Harry Hart. 'Four dollera ninety-five cents was netted from the refreshments which were served. An announce ment was made of the ladies' aux iliary quilling which will be held Thursday at the hall. A potluck luncheon will be served at the noon hour. The club plans to hold a dance Saturday night in the iTownsend hall. It Is planned to hold these dances every 2 weeks. J The public Is invited. The time was spent quilting on a quilt for Mrs. Ray mond Wicks. At the business meeting Mrs. Austa Vaughn was elected and installed president to fill the vacancy left by the resig nation of Mrs. Joe Schneider. The president appointed Mrs. Wilbur Black, Mrs. Leslie Wicks and Mrs. Monica Turner as the work com mittee for the next meeting. Mem bers were requested to bring scraps of embroidery cotton to work on towels. Mrs. John Read will be the hostess for the next meeting which will be held at the Ladles' club hall on February 29. Degree of Honor Meet The Degree of honor lodge held a short business meeting Monday evening at the Eagles hall. Bills were allowed and routine business transacted. The next meeting will be held on February 10 with Mrs. Frances Hunter, Mrs. Vera Zle beck and Mrs. Marie Lemmers as hostesses. Mrs. John Schaffer and Mrs.' Fred Knickerbocker entertained with a dinner Monday at the Schaffer home honoring Mrs. Fred Hammond on her birthday anni versary. Guests Included the mem bers of the three families. Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Gustafson are the parents of a daughter. born at the Sacred Heart hospital on Monday, January 27. The baby has been named Judy Lee. Lloyd Wolfard is in the Eugene nospitai recuperating irom an ap pendicitis operation. Frank Doleman is in the Rose burg hospital following a major operation. The LaComus club met for a dessert Tuesday afternoon at the home of T. C. Wheeler. Mrs. H. B. Griggs and Mrs. Nelson Dur ham were guests. Mrs. A. W. Swanson held high score. Tha club will meet In two weeks at the home of Mrs.. Ruth Woodson. Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Hagan have returned from spending the week end in Portland where they at tended the mid-year three-day symposium of the Oregon Asso ciation of Chiropractor Physicians. The doctors attended the series of leotures and clinics held at West ern States college. The Ladies' auxiliary were entertained for a luncheon Saturday at the home of Dr, and Mrs. H. R. Dewey. Mrs. R. M. Pepper of Corvallls is the auxiliary president and Mrs. H A. Hagen, Cottage Grove, la the secretary Postpone Event .The Elmartes club which was to have met Tuesday postponed the regular meeting for two weeks, The group met at the I. O. O. F. hall to decorate for the birthday dance which Is to be held Wed nesday evening. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Victor Chambers. The Friendly club met for a luncheon Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Victor Chapman at Santa Clara. Mrs. Chapman was a former member. Mrs. C. L. Madden of Drain, also a former member, was a guest as was her daughter, Mrs, Velma Haldeman. The next meet ing of the club will be held on February 18, the hostess to be announced later. The Boy Scouts met Montlay evening at the armory. Investiture was held for Wallace Morelock, Cecil Martin, Nile Plaster ind Reggie Land. A. W. Wooley con ducted the Investiture ceremon. les. As this was Mr. Wooley's last meeting as Scoutmaster, Brian Stroup presented him with a Boy Scout calendar In behalf of the troop. There will be a meeting of the patrol leaders Sunday after noon In room 22 at the Jefferson school. Beginning February first Fred Bosley will assume his duties as Scoutmaster. Willard Newton Is to be the assistant Scoutmaster. -! Observe Anniversary COTTAGE GROVE, Jan. 29- (SpeclaD Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Morris, formerly of Cottage Grove and now spending the winter In San Jose, Calif., celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Sat urduy, Jan. 25. Mr. and Mrs Morris were married In Oakland, Iowa, Jan. 25, 1877. They have five sons living and three dauglv ters. Both are in good health. During 1939 30.405 airplane tiies and 27.192 airplane Inner tubes were manufactured. Games and music will be provided as usual. Mrs. J. R. Miller is in charge. George Gwyther has left for Mandan, N. D., in response to the serious Illness of an uncle. He plans to be gone several weeks. The young people of the Pres byterian church had charge of the regular worship service Sunday morning with Watrine Spencer presiding. The Christian Endeavor choir supplied the music. There was a large attendance. Practice Play The cast of the grange play to be presented at an early date read the parts Monday evening in the down town office-of Mrs. Vemon I. Kovar, director. The name of the play Is "The Old Fashioned Mother." Mrs. E. A. Schwering enter tained at a social afternoon at her home Monday and a shower was given for Robert Lee, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Black- well of Halfway. Refreshments were served. Invited were: Mrs. J. T. Keer, Mrs. J. E. Woodson of Cottage Grove; Mrs. H. N. Traxler, Mrs. M. O. Wicks, Mrs. R. W. Stone, Mrs. W. W. Lower, Mrs. W. F, Harcombe and Mrs. C. I. Kent. Builds Garage Elmer Beier Is building a double garage on a lot between the Tyron and F. A. Everson properties In the Bohrnstedt addition and will occupy it while building the house. The E. A. Lukens family is moving this week to Oakland, Ore., where they will operate a restaurant. They have been living on the Lewis DeCoursey place in the Wilbur addition. Legion, Auxiliary Plan Dance at Junction City; Other Community News Given Fair Board Sets Benefit, Thursday. SHEDD, Jan. 29 (Special) The fair board is sponsoring a card party at the Masonic hall Thursday evening, Jan. 30.Plnoc hle will be played and light re freshments served. Proceeds will be used to defray fair expenses Dr. Sawhlll of Spokane preach ed at the United Presbyterian church on Sabbath morning and evening. Communion was observed in the morning. In the evening a union service was held with the local Methodist church and a number from the Oakvllle con gregation participating. The Ugo Igo club met on Fri day afternoon at the home of Mrs Mllford Muller. Pinochle was played. Mrs. Percy Taylor won first prize and Mrs. Merle Githens second prize. Those attending were: Mrs. Wayne Clark, Mrs Vivianne Abraham, Mrs. Doris Bayne, Mrs. Cuma Munson, Mrs Harold Pugh, Mrs. Russell Githens, Mrs. Merle Githens, Mrs. Percy Taylor, Mrs. Myrtle Thompson, Mrs. Melba Muller, Mrs. Cecil Stone of Harrlsburg and the host ess. The January community meet ing of the Oakvllle neighborhood was in the form of a home talent program with some assistance from Corvallls including the fol lowing numbers', song "The Birdie's Ball" by pupils of the Oakvllle school; two readings by Arls Reyes; an one act play "Root ing for Ruth" by local talent; band music by the Bell Plain school; two vocal solos by Miss Janice Mllkollen: vocal trio and quartet numbers by Jean and Eileen Von Lee, Bertha Brown and Mary Frances Swartley; Impersonation of a clown by David McPherson. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pugh made a trip to Seattle last week. Mr. Pugh attended a meeting of a Northwestern Sheep Owners as sociation and was elected vice president of Ihe group. (Special) The regular meeting of the American Legion and auxiliary was held Monday evening in the grange hall, beginning with a pot luck supper with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hansen and .Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carpenter as hosts. Mrs. Gertrude McKercher, who repres ented the auxiliary at the third district conference held at. Leba non on Sunday, made an interest ing report of the day's activities. All units are making a special Plea for all eligible women to come Into the unit to help carry on Its program of service. Lee Weber represented the Legion at the con ference at Lebanon. The housing problem of the two groups was gone into and It was voted to meet in the grange hall for this year if suitable arrangements can be made with the grange. It was also voted to hold a Valentine dance Saturday evening, Feb. 15, in the grange hall. Plans were made for the poppy sale and post ers will soon be in the windows of the business houses. Meet For Dinner Townsend club No. 2 met in usual session last week, beginning with a potluck supper. Thirty members were present for the eve ning. After the dinner a business session was held with President Thomas Nelson presiding. The regular club opening ceremony was observed. Some matters con cerning the good of the club were discussed. Mrs. Hone gave some readings and old time music and visiting were enjoyed by the group. The next meeting will be held Friday evening, Feb. 14, in the new meeting room in the Larsen building, entrance on Greenwood street. Hold Auction Junction City's first auction day was a decided success in both at tendance and amount of goods sold. This auction was launched by Chester Kubli and Is held in Hor ton's Lumber yard on Tenth and Elm. Several hundred men ana women were in attendance throughout the day and bidding was lively and stock brought a good price. Cattle, horses, hogs and sheep, some machinery and household goods were included in the sale. Earl Goodnight, auc tioneer, and his son, Lynn as clerk announce the gross sale was very close to the $1200 mark, a remark ably good showing for the first Junction City auction. Next auc tion day has been set for Tuesday, Feb. 18, also at Horton's Lumber yard on the east side. ,..j - tv...
