Robert Adair and John Adair are brothers. Hugh Tapp and Jack Tapp, of Kingsburg, Calif, arc visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Loron Longcoy. They plan to stop at the San Francisco exposition on their return home. The two men arc cousins of Mrs. Longcoy. Madelle Tyler, is spending the summer with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Hurd. SANTA CLARA NEWS SANTA CLARA, Aug., 1 (Spe cial) Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Hart have returned home from their vacation. Mr. Hart's mother, Mrs. J. I. Hart, and his aunt, Mrs. M. BoutLs, of Lexington, Kentucky, accompanied them on the trip to Roseburg, visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hart, and on down in California, through the Redwoods, back to Crater lake, Diamond lake, Odell lake, and over the new Willamette highway. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Denton made a trip to Oakndge recently. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Emerson went to Odell lake Sunday over me new Willamette highway. ON COAST FORK COAST FORK. Aue. 1. fSDe cial) The Coast Fork club picnic neid at uilley's picnic grounds Sunday was well attended. A bas ket lunch was served at noon and in the afternoon the men enjoyed cards while the women and child ren played prize winning games. On August 13, at 7 p. m. a birthday super will be given in honor of Lloyd Stafford and Elva Gambill. This will also be held at uiuey s park. Neighbors are invited. David Mitchell, Jr., who js em ployed near Corvallis, spent Sun day with his parents here. They all attended a Spanish War Vet erans picnic on the McKenzie. Bill Jackson and Gordon Dodge who have made several trips to Portland recently in connection with joining the U. S. navy have been accepted and will Itave in the near future for San Diego. Bachelors Still Unwed Although Draft Looms By United Press The possible imminence of mili tary conscription has failed to stampede the American male into marriage as it did in the spring of 1817, a United Press survey indi cated today. Marriage license bureaus throughout the nation reported few gains in applications either since Jan. 1 or since congress be gan considering a conscription bill which would require millions of eligible bachelors between 21 and 31 to report for military training for one year. Married men would be exempt. The volume of licenses issued during this year was the greatest of any month this year in at least ii states Dut license clerks thought that was only because it was June. In some states it was at tributed to a desire to avoid new ly imposed physical examination requirements for applications. Registrar James A. Burke oi Boston said 115 licenses were is sued at his office on July 29 to set a new day's record. It was 13 more than were .issued in April, 1913. He said 99 of the men were of draft age and said a few made inquiries about "time allowances" to avoid conscription. Improved business conditions were believed to have resulted in more marriages at Portland, Ore., and Columbus, O., officials said. The Hartford, Conn., registrar said increased employment in "war in dustries" biosted weddings. At Oklahoma City, the bureau said young couples had rushed in for marriage permits during the four days after the German inva sion of the low countries in April "and they'll come in flocks if we get conscription." That was the opinion of clerks throughout the nation.
