Jameson Sees Physical education In Field Of Social Science Physical education has a great possibility of becominc a social science, it is declared in an article. wiiucn uy uv. oamuci naic Jame son, professor of sociology at the university of Oregon, which ap pears in a current issue of "The Journal of Health and Physical Education." From the point of view of its objectives, particularly in view of the oublic demand, its ln ieresls lie more in the field of so cial than in physical science, he points out. The article, which is a digest of a talk delivered by Dr. Jameson before the Northwest District As sociation of physical education teachers last spring.' goes thor oughly into the whole field of this vocation. Dr. Jameson concludes: "Like the history of any science, educa tion has groped for self-discovery. Assiduous endeavors in objective experiments may push her Into the ring of socinl sciences. The task of physical education major or Instructors Is to test the validity of their data, discover the operat inn processes, and forget the pass inn fancies of personal skills and exhibilionistie artistry. "This is n painful and laborious procedure fraunht with failures. but promising enough if one wish es to follow the steps established bv the existing scientific discip lines. Until men physical educa tion sha'l remain outside the oale of social sciences in spite of its social content."
