Turn bull and family left this week-end for two weeks- in Seattle. IN NORTH BEND Mrs. E. E. Umphlette has gone for a week's vacation at North Bend. ARRIVE FOR VISIT Mrs. Condon C. McCornack and Mrs. Harvard Moore of San Fran cisco arrived Thursday for a visit of several weeks with their father, F. M. Wilkins, and their sister, Mrs. Lynn S. McCready. Another sister, Mrs. Herbert T. Condon of Seattle, also has been visiting here. On Thursday evening a family dinner was given by the group honoring Mr. Wilkins on his ninety-first birthday anniversary. LEAVE FOR CONVENTION Miss Catherine Taylor and Miss Doris Lindgren left Saturday for a two weeks trip to Evanston and Chicago, 111. They will attend the national convention of Theta Sig ma Phi, women's national jour nalism honorary society, at Evan ston. Miss Taylor is president of the university chapter of the group next year. MOTHERS NOT MEETING Alpha Delta Pi mothers club will not have an August meeting, the next event to be September 19. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Announcement was made in Portland this week of the en gagement of Miss Peggy Church, formerly of Eugene and a daugh ter of Campbell Church, to Fran cis Allen Wall of Portland, son of Mrs. John Wall of that city. The wedding will be September 8 in Portland. FROM CALIFORNIA Mrs. Evelyn Starr Leslie and Mrs. H. B. Camp, both of Los Angeles, were guests this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Chambers. Mrs. Leslie is a former resident of Eugene. VISITS HERE Miss Marion Vinson, who teaches at Tillamook, is spending several weeks in Eugene and Cot tage Grove. LEAVING FOR HOME Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Starr, who have been visiting in this section from southern California, are to return to their home the fore part of the week. VISITING HERE Mrs. Fred C. Smith from Pack wood, Rainier park, Washington, is visiting here a few days as guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Theda. RETURNS FROM MONTANA Miss Mary Kay Crumbaker, who has spent nine weeks visiting relatives and friends in Missoula, Montana, and in Spokane, Wash., has returned to her home here. WEDDING SATURDAY Of interest to Eugene friends is announcement of the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Calef to Mansfield Howells in Portland, Saturday. Mrs. Gladys Hansen, formerly of Eugene, now of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Mrs. James Walt of Ojai, Cal. were in Portland to be ma trons of honor for their sister. The bride is a former student of the university. FROM MINNEAPOLIS Mrs. Sam H. Little of Minne apolis has been visiting her : brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and j Mrs. Fred E. Smith. I Mrs. Harry T. Mattie Joyce Howell, Madge Rudd. Nell Clinkscales. and Mrs. James Caldwell, all of Spartanburg. South Carolina, stopped in Eugene. Monday, and visited Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Lan dru. They are all teachers from the Spartanburg high school in which Miss Marjone Landru also is a teacher. Manerud), Mrs. Lawrence W. Manerud entertained informally at tea on Wednesday afternoon at her home. Mrs. Myrans is here from To ronto, Can., for the month of Aug ust to visit relatives. HILL A BRIDE of Sunday last was Mrs. Dclbert V. Hill (Beatrice Faulkner), above, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Faulkner. The wedding and reception were held at the Alpha Delta I'l sorority house. The couple will live in Eugene. (Kennell-Elhs phot o Wiltshire engraving) Welfare League Lists First Meeting, Sept. 8 J-JERALDING the fact fall is near at hand, Welfare League mem bers announce their first meet ing of the new season will be September 8. The meeting was to have been September 1 but was postponed a week because of the Labor day week-end. Mrs. Daniel D. Gage, Jr. is president this coming year in the group which plans a busy season. District Event Notices have come to the Eu gene Business and Professional Women's club for the first dis trict conference of the new year in the state federation. The event will be Sunday, August 20, at Marshfield. Several from the local club are to attend. The next meet ing for the Eugene club will be a picnic on August 24 in Skinner Butte park. GI'ILD TO RESUME MEETINGS SOON St. Mary's guild of St. Mary's Episcopal church will resume its regular meetings on the first Wednesday in September. During the summer months, those mem bers wishing to meet for quilting are doing so each Wednesday at the church parish hall. Silver Tea and Display Is Arranged Tuesday N interesting event announced for Tuesday afternoon of this week will be a silver tea to be given at the home of Mrs. Timo thy Cloran by the Women's Mis sionary society of the Central Presbyterian church. Hours will be from three until five o'clock. . The committee in charge in cludes Miss Emma Chase, Mrs. J. F. Reade, and Mrs. Cloran. There will be a talk by Mrs. Cloran on Currier and Ives prints, illustrated by originals from her collection. The collection of old glass, to which many pieces have been added recently, also will be on dis play. All members of the church and their friends are invited to attend. X 7 u Etter-Field Wedding Event Friday Evening QT an informal ceremony held in the Mossy Maples grove Friday evening was solemnized the marriage of Miss Mary Field daughter of Mrs. Marian Field, to Orval Etter, son of Mr. and Mrs, Wayne Etter of Eugene. The service, an original one written by the couple and of Quaker nature, was read by Rev. Cecil F. Ristow, former pastor of the First Methodist church who is visiting here from Montana. More than seventy-five were present for the wedding, guests including members of the Wesley club of the Methodist church who had gathered there for a picnic sup per preceding the wedding and honoring Rev. and Mrs. Ristow. Group singing was the music Mrs. Hill Gives Party For Guests Mrs. Nathan Hili entertained Tuesday afternoon it a bridge party, honoring her sister, Mrs. Henry Taylor, and the latter's drtughter, Miss Vivian Taylor, of Pasadena, Cal., and her daughter, Mrs. Edna Waddell and the lat ter's daughter, Mary Jane, of Washington, D. C. Guests for four tables were In vited. Mrs. Taylor and Miss Taylor have returned to their home. Mrs. Waddell and her daughter will be here until September. Sorority to Give Luncheon to Honor Younger Group CJIGMA KAPPA sorority will en tertain a group of Eugene girls, who will enter the Univer sity of Oregon this fall, with a Japanese garden luncheon at Sey mour cafe, Wednesday, In charge of arrangements are Misses Sarah Ray, Shirley Schrenk, and Marljane Skillern. ENTERTAINS CLUB Harmony bridge club members met Friday afternoon with Mrs, H. H. Peters. Prizes at cards were won by Mrs. B. H. Strobel, Mrs. G. N. Traylor and Mrs. Francis Taylor. The next meeting will be with Mrs. W. L. Rayburn Sep tember 8. for the service. The couple was unattended. The bride wore a Russian peasant costume of hand woven linen, embroidered in red and black, with a black skirt. Following the ceremony, folk songs and dancing, and games were enjoyed by the group attend ing. Mr. and Mrs. Etter are to make their home in Eugene. Both are graduates of the University of Oregon, Mr. Etter receiving his doctor of jurisprudence degree the past June. Ho Is a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholnstic hon orary on the campus nnd the bride is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon music honorary nnd is well known in music circles here. Golf Event A two-ball foursome will fea hire the morning of golf for the women at the Country club, Wed nesday. Play will start at nine o' clock. Luncheon will be served at twelve o'clock. After a short trip to the'' coast, the couple will return to Eugene to make their home.
