Karl F. Dehlinger, district representative, released the warning locally. Present regulations stipulate that every container must be well fill ed which is interpreted to mean that the open container pack must be as full as possible without bruising contents when the boxes are stacked. Containers not so packed vio late the state law and were re cently condemned at the peach growers' hearings for a market ing agreement. The growers asked for a minimum weight of 48 pounds per container. However, the department can not set up definite weights without first making investigations and conducting a hearing and this ma chinery is too slow to work through before the peach harvest, the warning stated. Relative to the deceptive pack practice, Mr. McKennon pointed out also that this term is defined by law as meaning an arrange ment of fruits or vegetables which has in the outer layer or any ex posed surface products which are so superior to those in the interior of the lot as to materially misrep resent the contents of the lot. Those husbands who find they cannot settle down to read the evening paper after a hard day's work without the inevitable wifely command to water the lawn, should take a look at the new self operating sprinkler, now display ed in front of the city hall. The sprinkler was placed there by A. L. Parker of the Eugene Gardens, and will be on the grounds of the city park Saturday and Sunday. Unbelievable as it sounds, the water follows the hose around and waters the lawn in a 60 to 65 foot strip. With a gear device, a rotating wheel follows a grooved track along the hose and when it reaches the end simply stops, leaving a well-watered lawn behind it. The mechanism has been found very satisfactory, and requires none of that exasperating shifting or hand hosing. Mr. Parker was the builder of the Eugene float in the Portland rose festival. The new sprinkler, he said, originated in Arkansas. Two Get Three Years For Assault, Robbery Six persons were sentenced Thursday afternoon by Circuit Court Judge George Skipworth. Schoettler, income tax auditor working at Eugene for the past month and a half. "People are confusing the fed eral regulations with the state laws," Mr. Schottler, whose office is on the second floor of the coun ty court house, declared. "The re quirements are entrely separate." Over 80 per cent of the trouble discovered by the auditor is due to ignorance of the law. He advises all persons who have problems in regard to their state income tax to drop in and see him.
