The Oregon Indian's vic tory occurred in the second round of the eliminations. One of the principal upsets was the defeat of Shoulderblade, an other Oregon Indian, in the first eliminations by Dutra, a plucky 135-pound battler from the Atlan tic coast. McChesney who drew a first round bye, lost the nod to Rich in the second round of the 112-pound division. Pifer, another Oregon fighter who skipped the first round, lasted but 1:22 of the sec ond round 126-pound division tus sle with rugged Mancinelli of Den ver. Dillingham also drew a first round bye and went out of the tournament in his initial scrap. Bulldog Jackson and Tony Garibaldi were taking all of the available money they could find at the prevailing odds on their scheduled team match against Otis Clingman and Jackie Nichols at the armory Thursday night. Because Clingman and Filepo Romano handed the two vllllans an unmerciful beating in a tan dem tussle several weeks ago, local betting commissioners have established the cleanies as 5 to 2 favorites. The flood of Jackson Garibaldi money, however, had cut the odds to 4-3 at noon Thursday. Eye McShain Match Jackson defeated "Rebel" Riley and Garibaldi took the measure of Zibby Zbyszko in Portland matches Monday. "We'd be suckers not to take anything even-money or better on Thursday's match," Jackson said, "I was certainly not myself when we lost our last team match and Nichols isn't that much bet ter than Romano." There will be more than the wagers, the honor of winning and rivalry between cleanies and meanies involved in Thursday's match. To the grappler who makes the best showing within the next few weeks will go a world championship light-heavyweight match against Danny Mc Shain. Although the champion usually demands 60 percent of the purse, getting a crack at the world championship not only gives the challenger an opportunity to light the crown, but to get a slice of a good purse. Jack Raynolds, welterweight titleholder, was the last champion to appear here. He packed the armory in a match against Ben Sherman three years ago. Two Supporting Matches The four principals in the two supporting matches will also be eyeing a chance to meet McShain, oldtime Eugene pop-bottle target. Monte LaDue, who was as sured of the hatred of local mat followers after last week's de but, will meet Zbyszko, colorful Hungarian, in the semi-final, a 30-minute. 2 of 3 fall event. Bobby Wagner and Riley, two other members of the recent styl ist troupe imported by Promoter Herb Owen, will meet in a one fall, 30-minute opener. Reserved seat tickets are on sale at the Club cigar store. The program is scheduled to start promptly at 8:30 p. m. Eugene A. C. Needs $300 Wanted 100 baseball fans to keep Eugene in the Oregon State Baseball league! "Eugene has a franchise in the league and a bye has been left for the. local club in the schedule, but you can't pay a league entrance fee and buy baseballs and bats with peanuts," Frank Fassett said Thursday. The membership committee of the Eugene Athletic club, attempt ing to sell 100 memberships at $3 each to finance the State league club, has been enlarged. Unless the required S300 is raised within the next few days the plan will be dropped and the money col lected will be refunded to those who have taken memberships. The Eugene junior chamber of commerce has added its support to the plan and will assist the com mittee in its membership cam paign. Eugene fans who are not contacted by the committee can purchase "tentative" memberships from either Lonnie Crawford or Mervin Dahl at the First National bank. Bill Parrish at Hendershott's, Al Diotz at Babb's, or Dick Strife at the Register-Guard. District 7 Baseball League Lead At Stake The southern division, district 7 high school league baseball leadership will be at stake Friday when Coach Eldon Fix and his Springfield Millers invade Eu gene for a meeting with the un beaten Eugene high Axemen. Eugene and Springfield won initial league games last Friday and Springfield rested Tuesday when the UHS games was post poned because of rain. Eugene, however, played four innings and led Junction City 5-2 before be ing rained out. Coach Bert Kerns will likely use Bob Robertson on the mound for Eugene, the lanky hurler showing well in holding UHS to three hits last week. Delbert Koch turnend the same trick for the Millers against the Tigers and will no doubt do the hurl ing for Springfield. Smith and Barker will pro bably form the Junction City bat tery for Coach Lee Weber. Tex Gatlin, who allowed only seven hits In his loss to Eugene and several of them very scratch bingles will hurl for thc Tide nine.
