Visits In Roseburg Miss Bonnie Campbell of Eugene spent Wednesday in Roseburg, vis iting friends and attending to business. Back Snellstrom The commanders' council of Lane county has asked the county court to appoint John R. Snell strom as a member of the fair board. Mr. Snellstrom was ap pointed to the board last year, filling an unexpired term. Sandy Jacobs Here Sandy Jacobs of Trent was in Eugene on business Friday. Hill, re ceiver of Eugene Publishers, Inc. town, Mont. She was born Carrie Jane Smith at Middlebury, In diana, March 13, 1873, and came to Montana in 1895. She married Richard Royston in Butte in 189S. In 1903, the couple moved from Pony, Montana, to Fergus county, making their home on a ranch near Sipple. Mr. Royston died in 1937. Mrs. Royston is survived by four sons, Albert of Helena, Mont., Howard, Hugh and Keith af Lew istown. Funeral services were held at the Creel chapel in Lewistown, with Rev. W. S. Treweek officiating. BIRTHS HORNOR At the Sacred Heart general hospital, Friday, Janu ary 13, 1939, to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford C. Hornor, Sutherlin, a boy. Obituary Mrs. Villa Bell Prairie Mrs. Villa Bell Prairie, a resi dent of Eugene since 1917, died Thursday at the Eugene hospital. She was born May 1, 1814 as Villa B. McKay at Ontario, Ore. At the age of three she came to Eugene where she graduated from Eugene high school in 1932, She was married to William Rus sell Prairie on January 27, 1934 in Eugene. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sharon Lee, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H E. McKay, three sister, Ora, June and Jean, all of Eugene, three brothers, Miles, Kenneth and Dean, also of Eugene, and grandmother, Mrs. Anna DeFoe, Toledo. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a. m. from the Branstetter-Simon chapel. Martin P. (Pete) Lassen Martin P. (Pete) Lassen, route 5, Eugene, died Wednesday night at the Eugene hospital. He was born on January 4, 1887, in Mich igan and had been a resident in and around Eugene for 35 years. At the time of his death he was head janitor at the postoffice. He is survived by his wife, Marie, two sons, Harley and Bruce, all of Danebo, his mother, Mrs. Karen Lassen, Eugene, four sisters, Mrs. Emanuel Hansen, Escalon, Cal., Mrs. William Nel son and Mrs. Anna Hendricksen, both of Eugene, and Mrs. J. E. Campbell, Prineville, and a broth er, N. M. Lassen, Eugene. He was married to Marie Lythie on March 25, 1915, at Danebo. Funeral services will be con ducted by Branstetter-Simon at 2 o'clock Saturday at the Danebo Lutheran church. Rev. S. J. Hansen will officiate. Interment will be in the Danebo Lutheran cemetery. Mrs. Kate M. Croft and Mrs. .lessie Beanier SHEDD, Jan. 13. (Special) Funeral services for Mrs. Kate M. Croft and Mrs. Jessie Beamer. who were killed Wednesday when hit by a train at Albany, will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the United Presbyterian church at Shedd, of which both were members. Burial will be in the Pugh cemetery. Both women had been residents of Shedd for many years. Springfield Program Emphasized Importance Of Traffic Safety SPRINGFIELD, Jan. 13. (Spe cial) Students of Springfield high school were entertained and in structed Thursday afternoon with a program emphasizing the im portance of traffic safety, present ed by John Kerrick, representa tive from the department of the state traffic division. The students were shown two films, the first, "Danger of Driving With Bad Tires" accompanied by a talk by Eddie Rickenbacker. The 48-hour drive on the salt flats of Utah by Ab Jenkins, with com ments on his ideas of traffic safety, made up the context of the second film. Coburg Woman Honored At Kozy Korner Party SPRINGFIELD, Jan. 13. (Spe cial) Mrs. D. Pierson of Coburg was honored recently at a shower given for her by members of the Kozy Korner Sewing Klub at the home of Mrs. R. Fullerton. Those present included Mrs. E. Davis of Coburg, Mrs. Carson, Misses Velda and Beatrice Carson, Miss Doris Myers, Miss Florence Bell Fish, Miss Dorothy Copen haver, Mr. D. Franklin, Miss Lulu Bingham, Miss Frances Barnes, Misses Erma and Eunice Elliott. the guest of honor. Mrs. Pierson. and the hostess, Mrs. Fullerton. Maxey, editor of the Springfield News, was a business ! visitor in the offices of the stale j school superintendent in Salem : Friday. , Western Pine Orders Show Slight Decrease PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 13 U.R) Western pine lumber orders showed a 3 per cent decrease for the new year's holiday week, the Western Pine association report ed today. Shipments also dropped, but production registered a slight in crease. The week's figures: orders, 43, 024,000 feet: shipments, 52.996, 000 feet; lumber cut, 32,299,000 feet. For the first week in 1938 or ders totaled 48.271,000 feel, or 11 per cent higher than last week's total; shipments were 45.950,000 feet and production was only 15,710.000 fect, for the same number of mills.
