HOWLAND At the Sacred Heart general hospital, Tuesday, De cember 13, 1938, to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howland, route 1, a boy. Obituary Mrs. Clurisa Chastain HARRISBURG, Dec. 13.-J-(Spc-cial) Mrs. Clarisa Warden Chas tain, 76, died at her home near Rowland Friday night. She was born in Frankfort, Indiana, Feb ruary 20, 1862. On September 12, 1882, she was united in marriage to John Chastain. They came to Oregon 54 years ago, locating at Ivason. Ore., and then near Leb anon. Twelve years later thty moved to Rowland near Harris burg. Mrs. Chastain was a mem ber of the Christian church. She 's survived by her husband, John Chastain, and five children, Lu ther Francis Chastain of Jeffer son, Mrs. Carrie Lovena Crockett of Waterloo, Oregon, Homer Pcr- ret Chastain of Halfway, Oregon, Mrs. Mary Ellen Barnes of Tilla mook, John Clark Chastain of Brownsville; three bi others, Wil liam and Charley Warden of Mis souri, and Thomas Warden of Rowland; 16 grandchildren and throe great grandchildren. Funeral services were held 'n the Christian church at Harris burg. Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Reverend Ballard officiat ing. Interment was in the Alford cemetery. Henry T. C'a.vlor Henry T. Caylor, 76, died Mon day on Route -3. He is-survived by a brother, George Caylor of Los Angeles, and a niece, Mrs. Dale Bryan of Lugcnc. Funeral arrangements will be announced from the Vcatch chapel. Funerals Mrs. W. P. Lower CRESWELL. Dec. 13. (Special) Funeral services for Mrs. W. P. Lower were held at the SehweriiiK chapel Monday afternoon with Rev. George Cromley of Salem, former Creswell pastor, officiating. Mrs. L. C. Gohecn and Mrs. Cora Olson sang with Mrs. L. E. Zinikcr accompanying. The pallbearers were L. E. Zinikcr, Dale Zinikcr, Arthur Olson, H. N. Traxler, Earl Rinchart, and E. F. Roberts. Intdr mcnt was in the Lower cemetery. Linn, Marion and Polk counties. Matters pertaining to the counties' share of the state gasoline tax and other tax measures will be discussed. Only one in every 145 persons convicted for homicide is executed, according to estimates. The district comprises Lane, Lincoln, Arch-Swindler Dies After Short Illness SPRINGK1ELD, Mo., Dec. 13. UP) Gaston B. Means, 58, oft-tiine convict widely known for his $104,000 Lindbergh baby ransom hoax, died early today at the United States medical center here. Undisclosed to the end was his secret of what became of the large sum Mrs. Evelyn Walsh McLean of Washington, D. C, gave him on his promise he could return the kidnaped son of Col. Charles A. Lindbergh alive. Huge Red Meteor Seen in Vicinity Of Bend Saturday BEND, Dec. 13. Wl A huge red meteor which drifted slowly northeastward and disappeared in the direction of Prineville at 5:47 p. m. Saturday was reported by W. A. Rahn, Millican resident. Rahn said the flaming stone was so large and its movement so slow he at first thought it a flare from an airplane.
