(Special) Mr. and Mrs. Bert My ers and children went to Albany Sunday to attend the ninth annual Myers family reunion held at the Bryant park there. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tonoli of Tule Lake visited last week at the James Lebow home. Mrs. W. N. Harvey has returned from Fresno, Cal. Mr. and Mrs. Bain Morris of Pengra visited Sunday at the George Morris home. Mrs. Les Groves of Eugene is visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. Doc Pitcher for a few days. Budget Is Adopted By Committee COTTAGE GROVE, July 1. (Special) At a meeting of the school budget committee this waek the following members of the com mittee were present: Vinal Ran dall, Charles Beidler, E. R. Lemlty, C. J. Kem, H. W. Lombard, W.L. Workman, C. S. Roberts, Join Veatch, Joe Smith and Worth Har vey, school clerk. The budget was adopted as presented, which wis $61,231 for the year 1938-1939. Cf this, the amount to be raised b? district tax will be $28,031. This amount is a few dollars less than last year. AT WALTER V1XLE W ALTER VILLE, July 13. (Special) The seven-room house started last month by A. E. Peters at the Walterville garage is show ing considerable headway and the cottages being erected by Mr. Mc- Murrey ara going up at a rapid rate at the present time. Mr. Mc Murrey is building a double cot tage with a garage between. He with his family arrived recently from northern Minnesota. Mrs. Alta Radebaugh and daugh ters Velma and Vivian who have visited the last two days at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Robson left Tuesday morning. The guests were from Jefferson, Iowa, and had mo tored to Oregon by way of the southern route, going back the northern route touching Glacier park on their way home. The two daughters will be In college again this fall at Columbia university and the other at Grinell College. The Radebaugh and Robson fam ilies were near neighbors in Iowa for many years. TRADE AGREEMENTS WASHINGTON, July 13. W) Secretary Hull said today prelim inary conversations have begun with Soviet Russia for a renewal of the commercial agreement be tween the two countries. It ex pires August 5. Under the ex isting agreement Russia agreed to purchase $40,000,000 worth of goods in the United States during the year of the treaty. It exceeded this amount considerably. CAN'T MEET F.D.R. SALEM, July 12. OW Gover nor Charles H. Martin will be un able to accept invitations to meet President Roosevelt in California during the president's western trip. Two invitations reached him today. MASONS PLAN PICNIC CRESWELL, July 13. (Special) The regular Masonic meeting this week was the last one for the summer season. Degree work was given. A joint picnic for all resi dent members and their families and those of the Eastern Star chapter was planned for Sunday, July 17 at Blue Pool, one-fourth mile this side of McCredie Springs at 1 p. m. (Spe cial) Members of Rho Theta Rho Girls club recently attended a meeting in Reedsport, where they met with Waldport, Reedsport and Florence Theta Rho girls clubs to make plans for the convention which is to be held August 17 at Florence. They elected the officers for the convention. Miss Graham of Waldport ,was elected presiden; Oldie Morris of Florence vice president and Beth Read of Wald port, secretary. Carrie Mae Rickert, president of the Rebekah assembly was present. She gave the girls several good pointers, so as to improve their work. The Mapleton club present ed Mrs. Rickert with a bouquet and the Reedsport girls presented her with a gift. Chris Beck and Mrs. Fenton Mc Lellan furnished transportation for the Mapleton girls. After the meeting the girls were served refreshments. Miss Hazel Fishwood Entertains Art Students IN IRISH BEND IRISH BEND, July 13. Robert Mills has arrived from Monterey and is spending a vaca tion at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. K. Mills. (Special) Miss Hazel Fishwood, art teacher in the schools of Eugene, enter tained a group of art students at tending the summer school at the University of Oregon who have re ceived scholarships through the Carnegie Foundation, at her home in the district east of town recently. They hiked to Mt. Hebo lookout and slept in the lookout tower. Mrs. Ross and daughter had spent the week-end there, coming over with the other two Indies from Bend. Work on the house being built for Mr. and Mrs. George Momb was completed Tuesday evening, ac cording to the carpenter, Louis Guth of Cedar Flat. A little finish ing work will be done after the fills around the house have become settled. A great many people from Low ell and surroundings communities are out after the vld blackberries, which are plentiful this year. The old logged over areas are covered with fruit indthe crop is at its best. A lirge quantity of berries were taken out recently. Many people coming from the cities found it profitable to spend their time gathering this wild fruit. MISS HUGHES MARRIES REEDSPORT, July 13.
