More than $3200 in delinquent personal property taxes has been collected in Lane county by a spe cial deputy in the tax department of the sheriff's office the past two :nonths, according to A. P. Mc- Xinzey, chief deputy in the tax of fice. This deputy has been working largely among the smaller owners of personal property who have failed to pay the taxes on their personal belongings the past few years, and those who possess larger amounts of such property on which the taxes are delinquent will be seen later. The delinquency on such prop erty has grown to approximately $100,000 the past few years and y the appointment of the special deputy it is hoped to largely re duce the amount. Several years :igo, a deputy worked in this ca pacity for a number of months and "ood results were obtained, but in he intervening time the collections1 have lagged. Owners of such property appear not to pay as much attention to taxes upon it -.; they do their real property. This deputy has been collecting from dentiit on their operating euip Tient, small merchants and shop keepers on their fixtures and stock, hre shine parlors, restaurants and mailer places. Sawmill equip ment, other manufacturing ma rhincry and livestock also come irder this head. Another sp?cial deputy has been , work in o; for n short time on a check of lo7 operations to note , whethr or - ' t'mber is being re moved fi "m 1 r:d on which taxes 'wvp ir?t b?"n paid. While no of ficial c Mrohrnt has been made ng.-uns. a;vone on this line, reports ihave reached the office that such nractices have teen otithH on. There is very little cutting r tim ber right now. owing to the gen eral inictivi'v of the mills. Coos countv has had two depu 'Jes employed for a long time past, making such a check, with good results. Phone 121 Christian Science "God the Preserver of Man" was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches ot Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, June 12. The Golden Text was, "As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it" (Isa. 31:5). Among the citations which com prised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible; "For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory, no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee" (Ps; 84:11, 12). The Lesson-Sermon also includ ed the following correlative pass ages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "God is the Life, or intelligence, which forms and preserves the individuality and identity of animals as well as of men" (p. 550). Shell engineers found that getting away from a traffic stop can waste enough "undigested" gasoline to carry you X of a mile. To cut this watte and its high cost, they found a way to rearrange the chemical structure of gasoline, which makes every drop of fuel usable to your motor under all driving conditions.
