OREGON : xm. -i or i ELECTS OFFICERS The American Legion elected officers of its Willamette council Wednesday night when 115 mem bers of the legion and legion aux iliary met in Moose hall. Initia tion ceremonies and a "big feed" were included on the evening's program. Officers elected were Frank Southard, Lebanon, council com mander; Neil Sleeper, Eugene, vice-commander; Carl Schloeman, Corvallis, treasurer; C. V. Heath, Newport, sergeant-at-arrrf; Ralph Hargett, Lebanon, district chap lain. : The session decided to hold the district conference, annual political meeting, at Lebanon next year, probably about the time of the big strawberry festival there. At the meeting were represent atives of Eugene, Corvallis, Cot tage Grove, Oakridge, Monroe, Florence, Newport, Toledo, Al bany, Junction City, and Leb anon posts, all of which are in Lane, Benton and Linn counties. The Legion auxiliary officers named are Mrs. Ada Cox, Flor ence, president; Mrs. Jewell Gei ger, Eugene, vice-president; and Mrs. Zoe Heath, Newport, secretary-treasurer. Ciitici hail the diva as a "new Galli-Curci," pointing out that while she retains the vivacity and superb technique that delighted audiences in the past, she now has lovely lyric quality to her voice, Mme. Galli-Curci will sing here In McArthur court In the second concert of the series presented by the associated students of the Uni versity of Oregon. She will begin her program at 3:15 p. m. Reservations for the event may be made at McArthur court, on the campus. Scats are priced at 60 cents, $1 and $1.28. Interment will be In the Odd Fellows cemetery at Myrtle Creek. John D. West John D. West of Drain died Wed nesday afternoon at the Sacred Heart general hospital. He was a retired farmer from the Drain section, having lived there for the past ten years. He formerly re aided In Roseburg. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret H. West of Drain;- two foni, Carl West of Flemlngton, W. Va., and Fred West of Drain; two daughters, Bertie West of Los An geles and Mrs. Ruth Dery of Al bany, Ore.; and three grandchildren. Funeral announcement will be made from the Branstetter-Slmon chapel. Funerals Mrs. Roseanna Brlfo Funeral services for Mrs. Rose anna Briggs of West Springfield, who died Tuesday, will be held Friday at 2 p. m. from the Branstetter-Slmon chnpel, with Rev. Ernest Lee officiating. Interment will be in the old I. O. O.
