Browns Return to Farm at Deerhorn DEERHORN, Sept. 21. (Spe cial) Mr. and Mrs. William Brown, Lee Roy, Stanley and Myr tle Ann Brown, moved Sunday to their farm in Deerhorn from Dal las where they have spent the past summer. Lee Roy Brown was en rolled Monday in the eighth grade and Stanley in the first grade at school. Wilbur Dehne, graduate of the Springfield high school in June, left Sunday for Corvallis to attend Oregon State College. He plans to major in forestry. SAID BIG SUCCESS CUSHMAN, Sept. 21. (Special) A large crowd attended the com munity fair sponsored by Ada, Ma ple Creek, North Fork and Main River granges Saturday at the grange hall here. Each grange had a booth filled with vegetables, fruit, flowers, cooked foods, fancy work and quilts. Awards Given Ada grange won first prize for the largest and best exhibit. Mrs. Ellingson of Main River was first for a basket of cut flowers and Mrs. Sam Holsapple of Maple Creek first for the best fancy work a pair of embroidered pillow cases. Many blue ribbons were given out and a dinner was served at noon to a hall full, after which most of the vegetables and fruit were auc tioned off. Event Success All present were unanimous in declaring this one of the best meetings held in western Lane county. The hall was put in order and a dance sponsored by Main River grange, enjoyed by a good crowd in the evening. Blue Mountain Has School Board Meet MOSBY CREEK, Sept. 21. (Spe cial) The Blue Mountain board members held a meeting recently and made out the budget. They de cided against transporting the Walden children on the school bus. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Abcrcrom bie of Westfir spent Saturday night at their place, returning Sun day. Miss Doris Pitcher of Eugene is spending a few days at her grand mother's, Mrs. Pitcher. Violet Gleaser, who is working in California, is visiting her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. German Gleaser. School at Dexter Has 59 pnrolled DEXTER, Sept. 21. The Dexter grade school opened on Monday with a good attendance. The upper room in charge of Mrs. Kenneth Jennings has 33 pupils and the lower, in charge of Miss Jeanne Anne Spencer has 26. (Special) The Danish Brother hood convention held here Satur day afternoon and Sunday was well attended In view of the rainy day. This convention was a so cial assembly rather than a busi ness one. The entire group of vis itors and a number of local members visited the new union high building in the afternoon. A banquet was served m the hau that evening followed by a dance and social time. The delegates were entertained at the homes of the local lodge members. The next convention will be held in March in Astoria. This will be a business session with election of officers. CLOSES, CRESWELL Grade School Has Increase JUNCTION CITY, Sept. 21. (Special)-The grade school had an enrollment on Monday morn ing of 231, a considerable in crease over last year. More seats are being placed in the rooms to accommodate the increase, rooms that will comfortably seat 25 to 30 pupils are being arranged to care for as many as 40. Three outside districts are bringing pupils here: Lower Fern Ridge, Harpole and Liberty, and several pupils are coming in from other districts. CRESWELL, Sept. 21. (Spe cial) The Scarbrough drier closed down Saturday until the middle of the week as the prunes were too green. The evening services for both the Christian and Methodist churches beginning with the coming Sunday will change from 7 and 8 to 6:30 for the young people's service and 7:30 for the preaching service. A fellowship hour for the young peo ple will follow the preaching serv ice at the Methodist church each Sunday evening. . Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Holbrook went to Eugene Sunday to see their first grandson, David Mel vin, born that morning to Rev. and Mrs. M. P. Traxler at the Eugene hospital. They were accompanied by Mrs. Clara Traxler, also a grandparent of the new arrival. ' At Presbytery Rev. S. B. Cook attended the j Willamette Presbytery in Salem last week. ! W. H. Sept. 21 (Spe cial) Red-hatted hunting parties in cars and trucks predominated traffic on the highway, during the week-end, most of them going into central Oregon. Local hunters de clare the. rains of the past day or so have made hunting conditions the safest and most favorable in several seasons. Fire hazards have been reduced and dry, crackling leaves and branches will not warn the game of the hunter's approach. Personal Items .
