Gray left Thursday for Hoseburg to attend the elate convention of the American Le gion and auxiliary, Mrs. Cronor and Mra. Klchter are going aa alternates from the Cascade unit, and Dr. Gray la a delegate from the Cascade post. Mr. Croner is an alternate from the local post. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Breese will spend Friday and Saturday in jlosoburg attending the convention. Miss Aima Strand waa a dinner gueat of Dr. and Mrs. G. J. Gray on Monday evening in honor of ber birth day. M. E. Jenson waa also present for the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Dumont and family spend Sunday at Lebanon. The Colonial Construction com pany ia moving Ha road machinery from ita camp above McCredle Springs. They have completed their contract on the upper Willamette highway and they have been awarded a new contract for the neit lap of the highway but as there is no federal funds available the work will have to be postponed until t later date. Virgil Austen, aon of W. W. Aus ten, was in Oakridge from Thursday until Saturday visiting at the Austen borne. He was accompanied by Miss Helen Morton. They are both from Topplnich, Wash. PWA Auditor Henson was here last Week checking on the PWA project dust completed here. Family Reunion Held in Eugene NOT1, Aug. 13. (Special). (Special) At the regular meeting of the Crcs well Volunteer Fire department Tues day evening in the council rooms plans were discussed for the meeting of the Lane County Fire association here Tuesday, August 18. Clyde Holloinnn, Robert A. Olson, W, W. Lower, and J. A. Coleman were appointed on the entertainment committee and the out side demonstration will be in charge of Chief J. R. Clack, F. A. EverBon, E. A. Schwerlng, and Lloyd Aldrich. A large number of delegates are expect ed to attend this meeting. Junction City, Oakridge, Eugene, Florence, Springfield and Creswell are included in the association. The much needed grass burning project was slso dis cussed and the time aet for next week. All membera are urged to help. F. A. Everson was reinstated. (Spe- cial ) Word has reached Harrisburg that the Southern Pacific company will put ft full time agent here start ing Aug. 15. The agent will be given a three-months' trial and will be kept on the job permanently if business justifies it. During the depression the company took off the agent here hut the business outlook has improv ed to a point where it is willing to try again for the Harrisburg traffic. The local chamber of commerce re cently took up the matter with the company. The agent supposed to be here Aug. 1ft. To Do Road Work Renewed work on the Kiver road between Harrisburg nnd Corvallis is scheduled for Aug, IS, with grading of the road near Peoria. Two sections of this road hare been built in recent years, both near Harrisburg, a total of fire or six miles. This is a mar ket Toad project and tho county court of Linn county has been completing it as fast as funds would permit. Fire Group Meets The Willamette Firo Fighters as sociation met hero this week and list ened to a varied program. A deputy fire marshal attended nnd spoke. A truck. of equipment under the charge of a representative of the national board of fire underwriters was on band and pictures of the working of these appliances wero shown. There wero 50 present, local firemen, dele gates from Halsey, Stnyton, Browns ville, Scio nnd Albany. Dinner was served by the Harrisburg F. L. girls at the city ball. A movement is un derway to serve Halsey with the locnl equipment in case of fire, if tho resi dents of Halsey see fit to build n cis tern and supply it with water. Mr. Itfcdus has come to Noti and is taking possession at once. Mrs. Rcdits will follow later. Mr. and Mrs. Kheuhen Curtis left Friday night by way of Hoseburg for Hundon to spend the week-end. They returned Sunday, making the trip back by way of Florence. They were ac companied on the trip by Mr. Curtis' mother, who will remain and visit relatives for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Everett O'Del! of Los Angeles were guests the past week of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Huston. They left Monday for places north of hero nnd will again visit at the Huston home on their return trip. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Clowcr and son Othn went to Klamath Falls Saturday to visit their son, Richard Doty. Margaret Wilson of Cilenada was a guest of ber mother Monday night and Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Pendleton or Grants Pass, are spending a few days xsith friends at Noti. Guard Huston was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital Monday where be will undergo a major operation. Mrs. Ethyle Thruman has returned from Westlake where she spent sev eial days at the home of her son-in-lcw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hag ue v Nor ts ten. Mr. and Mrs. Lu Wheltyhemier and Mrs. Mary Nelson all of Marshfield who have been visiting in Boise, Ida., were guests this week at the Joe Lopez home. Miss Janette Ustas of Yamhill is a guest of Virginia Allison for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Garner of Portland spent the week-end at the home of Mrs. Garner's brothers, Red and Mor ris Thruman. While at Noti they also visited Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Heison. Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Dowel and son Walter left early Tuesday for Yellowstone national park and other places of interest. They expect to go east as far as Kalispel, Mont., and will be gone two weeks. LODGE MEETS YONCALLA, Aug. 13. (Special) The N. 0. W. lodge met at the I. O. O. F. hall Tuesday evening. MISSIONARY GROUP MEETS HALSEY, Aug. . 13. (Special) The Woman's Missionary society of the Church of Christ was entertained by Mrs. George Taylor on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Lyle Chance, presi dent, presided during the business ses sion. Eight members and one guest responded to the roll call. The lesson was presented by Mrs. Chance, and Mrs. Hale explained the missionary work in which she will have a part in the Phillippines.
