OF FLAX CONCERN HERE IS INCREASED Borrowing power of the Oregon Fibre Flax association was invreasrt! from $J5O0 to $'Jo,0UU by action of stockholders of the association at a naeeting at tbe Eugene chamber of commerce rooms Monday nixht. The action enables Lane county flax grow ers to obtain loans through the fed eral land bank at Spokane, ranging from $10 to $12 per ton. Ihe Lane county flax "harvest Is now under way, approximately 1500 tons of fibre flax being-expected from the harvest this summer. Two pulling machines hare been brought to the county for the- harvest, but difficulty is being met in tbe operation of them, due to tbe fact much of the flax stand was beaten down by - recent rain storms, It was said at the meeting. Since it would cost approximately $15 an acre to pull the flax by hand, such method 8 would greatly reduce tho value of tho crop to tbe grower. It is expected tbe price for flax haul ed to the plant at Springfield will be $25 per ton with an additional $5 per ton bonus paid by tbe government Prior to tho meeting of stockhold ers, a meeting of tho board of direct era was held with L. L. Lawn, director of the state flax and linen operation. It was said here that the work at the Springfield retting . and scutching plant was progressing satisfactorily nnd would be ready for tho county flnx when harvested. The matter of transportation of tho fiber from tho farm to plant was discussed and it was reported thnt one truck bad been purchased for trans portation of the fiber through the plant, from building to buildiug.
