troop colors of red and blue being
used. Mra. Wendell L. Van Loan,

awakening talk by Miss Jeannette
Calkins, magasine editor. .. .With
the reading of but one issue, a per

that so fine a magazine would be ac
cepted everywhere as a very vital
function of the state federation....
But the fact remains that unless
something is done quickly, Individual
ly and collectively by the club wo
men of the state, the Oregon Club
woman la doomed.... It seems the
club women can entertain several
bridge and luncheon clubs In a jea
aon. but when it cornea to paying RO
cents for the year's subscription to
the magatine which ia received
through their affiliation with tbeir
study, civic or other group in the
state federation, there i a long wail
about hard times.... It Is Inconceiv
able that any group ao active and

While looking at the annual Instal
lation ceremonies at the Neighbors
of Woodcraft, Mra. Fred Ludford re
called to na ber first visit to the lodge,
twenty-nine years ago. "We lived out
In the Falrmount district. It seemed
so far away, then. We had to hnTe
the team hitched np to bring us down
to the lodge meetidg. And It was quite
a little Jaunt to the building In 'the
city.'". . . .As we listened to her In
teresting account, we could not but
think how easily this over-organlrod
situation In Eugene could be solved If
there weren't the ever ready auto
mobile or bus.... When people had
to go by the slow methods and such
long distances ss were part of the
horse days, they did not belong to 10
to IK clubs and lodges they couldn't
attend them nil. . . ,
