MfftGJHCLIMBER By RICHARD JOHNSTON The 1034 major league baseball sea- aon. already nearlng Ita end, bringa to light two interesting facta, to wit: The closeness of the pennant battles, the coming through of "dark horses," and the Increased interest of the pub lie aa a result; and secondly, over shadowing of Individual efforts In the team efforta at first place. Especially la thia true In the American loop. When the Yankees and Athlet. loa dominated the Junior league, the pennant race waa usually such ranaway that the winner waa know around the fourth of July, it which time New York or Phil adelphia waa ahead about 13 lames. Along with this overbalanced situa tion, public interest was transferred to the Individual heroes, such as It ut U. Gehrig, Fozz, Grove, and other atahvnrta who aimed marks of long standing. Now with Detroit and New York fighting tooth-nnd-nnll for the top spot in the American loop, and with a similar situation existing between the (iinnts, Cards, and Cubs in the National league, baseball interest has been revived very strongly, especially in tliA eastern section. Even third, fourth and fifth place clubs Ilka Cleveland, Boston, and othera are furnishing ale. mente of Interest. Hera on the eoast Loa Angeles, Missions, Hoi lywood, and San Francisco are ataglng great battles. Alllioiik'li the day of Bahe Ruth seems about done, the once "national snort" seems definitely due for a revival of lla prestige.
