When Eugene staged her first page ant in 1026 it was to celebrate the ' completion of the great Southern Pacific terminal hi're and it w..n called the "Trail to Rail" pr.geant. PeprcB wion years have been hard on Eugene us on all railroad centers. Railroads have suffered not only the general decline in business but the ! woes of new and fierce competition by air, land and water, but things are i looking brighter in this railroad town 1 once more. In the last few months ! scores of enginemen and trainmen have been returned to regular sched ules and they are optimistic for the future. Most hopeful of the signs In rail roading is the new equipment now under experimentation which railroad men believe will enable them to meet all their competitors in speed and comfort and cheapness of transportation. When the Union Pacific showed its new aluminum stream-lined train in Eugene more than 12.000 people passed through to inspect the outfit in 12 hours. Faster and more fre quent trains in both freight and pas senger service is the prediction of forward looking railroaders. The Southern Pacific's new fast Cascade Limited is rumored to be only the forerunner of trains which will be stilt faster. Air conditioning of cars, lower rates, many other Im provements are fast restoring travel to something approaching normal. centers in Oregon and has a large number of the finest retail shops. THE PIONEER SPIRIT The fine old qualities of vision, courage, perseverance, integ- rity, honesty and co-operation have never changed. We can have and need these same grand Pioneer Qualities, just as our fore-fathers needed them. This we take it, is the motive back of The OREGON TRAIL PAGEANT to revive in us some of this PIONEER SPIRIT. LET US NOT FORGET IT. It was the vision of some of Lane County's Earliest Pioneers that started The EUGENE MILL and ELEVATOR COMPANY . These Noble People had the vision to realise the importance of a Flour Mill and Grain Elevator here in Lane County to serve the farmers with a cash market for their grain and to supply the people of Western Oregon with a good flour out of which to make the "Staff of Life." Their honesty and fair dealing gained for them a reputation beyond dispute. This same firm now manufacturing: " Feather flake Flour and Feeds" Is striving to maintain and perpetuate this Ideal and Reputation; UtxutlC'UUI tv Eugene Mill t, Elevator Co Eugene, Oregon MItL6Etl A l MANUFACTURERS & FtATHERFLAKE FLOUR- FE ' ijgcne.Urcocu III tbs .
