Papa Six THE EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD STEELE RETURNS Foster Steele, asalalant super ior with the Willamette foreet headquarters here, has returned from a trip of Inspection of some of the projects being done at the Belknap 3 C camp on the McKen zle. Mr. Steele reports good progress In the work being done by the camp on two road construction projects, ono leading towards Clear Lake, the other on Horse creek, and also on construction of build ings and maintenance work on tha Box Canyon road. The Box Canyon road Is the connecting link between the Wil lamette and McKenzle highways, running about 60 miles. The Bel knap camp group is now at Dutch Oven on this work and Monday will move their road camp to Frissell crossing. It will be around the first of August before the road Is open to travel all the way through. Snow is rapidly disappearing, al though there Is more than nor mally for this season of the year In the mountains. Mr. Steele re ports. Workers are not yet able to get into Indian Ridge and Sub stitute lookouts because of the snow. on Mcdonald screen! Both the senior missionary group and the Hnttle Mitchell circle of the Christian church .held meetings Thursday eveninc following tho weekly social hour at the church. Klva and Mary Hojies smig a duet nt the meeting of the senior society. This group decided to hold a joint program meeting with the Eugene society on Aug. 8. The place for the affair has not been named. Officers were instnlled by the Hat- tie Mitchell circle. The new leaders are Mina Peterson, president: Mary Iladley, vics-president: Lela Peterson, secretary: and Barbara Adams, treas urer. The program was led by Pearl Hellerbrand. The group will meet again the first Thursday in August at the home of Miss Helterbrand. Springfield Vote Light Friday A. M. SPRINGFIELD, July 21. (Spe cial). Voting in Springfield was light during Friday morning, but indica tions were that a heavier vote would be cast during the afternoon and early evening when business men and others who work during the day could get to the polls. Tn three out nf four precincts about 10O ballots had been cast hy 11 o'clock. At tb high school 27 hnd voted at 11 a, in., .'12 at the city hall at 1 ::)0, and 40 at the Brattaln school at 11:15. PERSONAL ITEMS SPRIXfiKIEIJl, July 21. - (Spe. R. S. Shelley, supervisor of the Siuslaw forest, and C. J. Buck, ' regional forester from the Portland office, have returned from a trip to various parts of the Siuslaw i forest. I They visited t lie 3-C camps at Hebo, Cape Creek, and Grass val ley, and the Hebo and Waldport ranger stations. The Cape Creek camp Is said "to be going full steam ahead," the other two, however, have not quite completed camp construc tion work yet. Road work is progressing, all three camps being busy.
