C, where he was called to attend a meeting of can ners and packers. The connera of the northwest will meet in Seattle next Tuesday to draw up their code of ethics nnd work out their problems to conform with the farm art provisions. Sir. Holt will attend the meeting. Mr, Holt was one of two Oregon men who attended the meeting in Washington. D. C. Some 75 attend ed the conference from all parts of tin- L'nited States. The purpose of the gathering was to crystal the Ideas of the canncrs as to how tbey want the government to uid them. The government is requiring the csnuerg of different commodities to get together and lay down a set of rules' or' code of ethics thoy wish to follow. If a substantial majority votes the code, the plan will be to take necessary steps to make all follow the progrnm laid down. All cannera agree their industry la in .a bad way and tbut something is necessary to save 'ft. If the enn ning industry can rid itself of secret rebates, free goods, and auch prac tice's, a big step will have been taken to aid the Industry, Mr. Holt said, pointing out such - practices had wrecked the business. The government, too, has es pri mary interests now in this movement, the objacta to return more to the producer and the laborer. Speaking of business in gereral, ' Mr, Holt said he observed throughout his trip, a much more cheerful atti tude. "Even In our own line w find plenty of buyera ready to buy. They are only fighting the price levels," ho said.
