PajfS 1V3 Tl A hew Engene-to-Uarshfleld train record was set by the Southern Pa cific special troop train Tuesday cor- Tying advance detachments for two civilian conservation corps camps. The train left Eugene at IS s. m. and arrived in Marshfield st 9:30 a. m, The regular train left at 1 a. m. snd arrived at 7 a. m., a difference of an hour and a half. - The time was a record for the run according to forestry and railroad of ficials, lit E. B. Kelley accompanied the detachment of civilian camp offi cers and workmen to the tioon Lake camp while Lt. Harry Killpark ac companied the detachment to too Lo nnille F-42 camn. Seventeen camps have now been established In the Eugene district now commanded by Lt. Col. F. A. Barker with Major Charles Corlett as hie ex ecutive officer. Sixteen hundred men for 10 camps established Sunday will arrive Thursday on four special trains. The first Is due In at about 8:30 a. m. -One company of 180 men will de train at Oakridge to complete the quota at Eigdon. Four will be trucked out to camps from here, one will be sent through on the tram to Coqnilie and the other four will go thronch to IToseburg and be trucked out from thero. , Two w regular officers and one reserve officer reported at the Eu gene headquarters Wednesday. Capt. H. A. Skerry, Sixth Engineers, and Capt. David McD Shearer, Sixth En gineers, both of Fort Lawton, Waah., arrived early Wednesday. First Lieut, Wm. Virgill Barney, ' Chaplains Ileserve, reported for ac tive duty. He will serve as chaplain for the Eugene district Lt. Barney attended the Eugene Bible College for some time, later entering Oregon. Statement of H. R. Shearer Received ' H. B. Shearer of Doren candidate in gone 2 for director-of the 'county ! non-high school district, has sent to ,U C. Moffltt, county superintendent, a brief statement of his stand on school question at Issue. ' He snys in his statement that he has lived in Lane county sine 1005, . that he Is a taxpayer and that he has served as clerk of school district 122 for 18 years. Mr. Shearer saya that If he Is elect, ed he will use methods of strict eco nomy. "As to transportation of pupils" he says, "I can aay that this Is some thing for the future and will have to 'be studied thoroughly before anything 'can be said or done." Jimmy O'Brien of the state police office at Medford arrived here this morning to assist in the investigation. Haley has a long local police record for bad checks and petty thefts. Eugene Lions club members ere ssked to be at the hotel at that time and remain there for a half hour to meet and entertain the vis itors. A few from Eugene will go on to Roseburg Thursday with the caravan. The main delegation from Eugene will leave Friday, however, accom panying some 60 members of the Eugene Gleemen to Roseburg. The Gleemen are to be featured on the program Friday evening at the con vention as Eugene' stunt in ask ing for th 1934 convention.
