Meeting Monday The regular monthly meeting of the Congregational Brotherhood will be held Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock at the church, the program to start with a dinner. Dr. Louis H. Hender son of the University of Oregon will talk to the group of his summer trip to Alaska. Special music will be given. All men of the church are in vited to attend. Highway Work Progresses The work of spreading the first coat of rock on a portion of the Mc Kensle highway near Doyle hill is progressing very well, according to Denzel Godard, who is employed by Hlllstrom brothers, the contractors, and who waa in the city Saturday. The cutoff just above Doyle hill is being worked on at the present time. Sermon Tonlo Qlven "Rainbow Hues in the General Elec tion" will be the theme of a pre sermon message by Rev. Bryant Wil son Sunday evening in the First Bap tist church. He will discuss the re suit of the election from a Christian viewpoint His main sermon topic will be "The Sword of Jesus." John Devereaux will sing "Hear Thou My Prayer." Salmon, Trout Fishing Good- Salmon and trout fishing are both good in Siltcooa lake these days, ac cording to word received Saturday at the Hendcrahott gun store from P. F. Close of Siltcoos. He says that a niunberof men from Eugene made some good catches Friday. Ducks are not yet very plentiful. Mr. MoMurphey Better Mrs. Albert McMurphey of Eugene, who is spending the winter in Los Angeles, Is recovering nicely following an attack of influenza two weeks ago, it was announced by her daughter, Mrs, V. G. Madden. Reports came that Mra. McMurphey waa seriously ill with pneumonia. Plants Must Be Inspeoted On account of the Quarantine against strnwberry plants here all plants for shipment out of the county must first be inspected, according to O. E. Stewart, county fruit Inspector. The quarantine is on account of a serious insect pest that infesta aome of the plants. Shooting Match to Be Held A shooting match both for Bhotgun artists and rifle shots will be held at W. A. Copeland's farm on the Willamette highway 14 miles south east of Eugene Sunday. This is the old Robinott place. Suitable prizes are being offered. Dr. DeBusk Speaker Dr. B. W. DeBusk of the Univer sity of Oregon psychology department is to address the adult class of the Congregational church on Sunday morning on the topic, "The Signifi cance of Fear in Child Life." Road Crews Laid Off Two road crews that have been working on the Engene-Swisshome road in the vicinity of Linslaw, have been laid off for the season, accord ing to Joe 'Fowler of that place, who was in Eugene Saturday conferring with members of the county court. Large Spud Grown By Harry Whitney SPRINGFIELD, Nov. 12. (Spe ciul.) A Burbank potato weighing three pounds and four ounces, meas uring nine inches in length and 15 inches in diameter was displayed Snttirday by Harry Whitney. The po tato was grown in bia own garden.
