W) In some ways Earl Mueselman Is worse off, now that he can see, than he was when he. was blind. The 23-veiir-old Allentown, Pa youth was Riven thirty per cent sight in one eye uy tne creation oi an am firinl nnnil a vpnr ago. Today he was in New York for the first time since he has grown accus tomed to seeing things. While gazing at the wonders ol skyscrapers, subways ana snips, ne explained the tremendous handicap which now faces him. lie has lost the wars of the- blind, and still has not yet gained the- con fluence of vision. When he adventured forth Into New York as a blind youth, he came alone. This time his uncle, I). W. Laiibarh. Philadelphia optometrist, guided him by the elbow. "Before I was able to see," Mussel man said, "I had no fear of going anywhere. I always went alone. I could guide myself by feel and my , sense of direction. But after I was able to see I got afraid. I could see how fast the auto-1 mobiles and street cars went. Ever since then some one has had to go with me and lead me when I go out in to the streets." Fearing it would -be years before he gained full confidence in his new power, Mussdnian was worried about an occupation. James II. O'Donnell, a showman and brother-in-law of Con t'olleano, famous tight rope walker, who had been brought up in Allen town, came to the rescup. He knew Musselmnn played the sax ophone and that he had had two pals En the- Overbrook, Pa., institute for the blind who also played musical in struments. Ko the two blind youths. Ralph Sterner and Charles Lichtenwalner. and the youth who now sees, formed a musical trio. That brought Muss el man to this city whose speed terrifies him. January 1 Is tbe official birthday of all thoroughbred horses. E About 71.000 persons were sent to prisons in the United States during lit.il. Through the efforts of the One Hundred Per Cent Duty club, com posed of members of Company ''C 102ml infantry, a new armory drill attendance record was made during the past year. There was no other unit from the two regiments of Ore gon National Guard having anywhere near the number of men with UK) per cent attendance records that the Eu gene unit had. which was H2. The One Hundred Per Cent Duty club was organized last year with lt( charter members for the purpose of attaining better drill attendance and acquiring better men to maintain the company. In 102S there were but two men holding such record and every year since there has been 100 per cent increase in the number. During ine coming year mere is no way to make such a record for there is but 47 per cent of the personnel to work with. The goal which the club has set this term, however, will be even harder to accomplish and that is to push the complete personnel to 1(H) per cent attendance. Another record of which the local unit is very proud is that of hav ine furnished more men in the van ous regular service branches than any other unit in the state. Two of the men who went during the last year are now corporals serving with the 31st infantry in the Orient. The unit drills every Tuesday night during the year and welcomes vis itors, it is announced. Grange Will Have Four-H Program JUNCTION CITY, July 21. Mb f!l' IP-EES HERE'S something to think about if you want the biggest money's worth of comfort, safety and trouble-free mileage when you buy tires. Yon don't have to buy low quality tires to get low price. You don't have to take second-choice tires to save money because FIRST-CHOICE costs no more. Here are prices that prove it. Read them and remember, they buy real Goodyears. Big, stout, husky, tough Supertwist balloons with the name Goodyear Speedway on the sidewall, and Goodyear materials through and through. For 17 years, motorists have voted Good year Tires the best on the market because they have bought more Goodyear Tires than any other kind. Because Goodyear makes millions more tires than any other rubber manufacturer, it stands to reason Goodyear can build them better and better. Take another look at the prices here, and ask yourself: Why buy any second-choice tire when FIRST-CHOICE costs no more! WAIT GOODYEAR PATHFINDER SIX "PLIES"? Von can count six layers of cord here, but the first two under the tread In this tire (or In any so-called six-ply" tire built this way) do not run from bead to bead. Some tlre makerscount these at"pllet," but they are really breaker strips, so we call them that 4.7S-M 'fa, Single tire fiach purs 6 Full oversize 4.40-21 Ford Chevrolet s2p Per lingle tire Each In pain 359 Full oversize 5.00-19 Chrysler, Dodge, Nash Cpft'fa Each In '.('. i t In pain Per single tire e IWIMWupWMiW! m Single tire Each pairs 8m Full oversize Full oversize Full oversize 4.50-XX 4.5040 4.7519 Ford Chevrolet Chevrolet Ford Chevrolet Plymouth 583 s-579 X)SO S I"P-' In P"" J In pain T95 B.89 Per tingle tire J Per single tire 3 Per single tire Q Full oversize Full oversize Full oversize 5.00-XO 5.X5-X1 30x3HReg.
