Arthur Long, evangelist, preaches Thursday on "Painting the Face of Jesus on the Canvas of the Human Soul." His message Wednesday night was a portrayal of Jesus Christ as the creed meet ing all today's needs. The evan gelist declared that humanity need a perfect pattern and Jesus is that. "Every soul needs a pro phet, priest and king and Jesus meets those three needs. He was also presented as the solution of all racial, social economic and religious problems, and he wns finally portrayed as essentlnl to eternal life with God and the re deemer," Mr. Long said. Watch Taken By Murderer Pawned By Portland Men PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 7. (U.R) Two men were held in jnil here today until they can satisfactorily explain how they came in possession of a watch, stolen ly a murderer in Wich ita. Kan., a year and a half aj;o. Meantime Portland police had asked Denver police to attempt to check on a Denver boollepcer whom the local men claim nave them the watch. The watch was stolen when a thi'; shipped and killed Haskell Rosen, Wichita pawnbroker, Sept. 1H, IJt.lfl. It was pawned here Wednesday. The police cauchtM the case and works numbem of the watch as those of the one stolen from Rosen, and arrested Kdward Xeal. 26, who pawned the watch here. Xeal revealed that he had been (riven thti watch to pawn by John G. Hahn. 44, who wns then also ar rested. ITnhn clnimed to have bought the watch in Denver from a boot lepcer he knew only as "Brownie." ' Both men were beinjr held in jail, booked as "fugitives from Wichita, Kansas." Extensive Improvements by new settlers ill this section on farms bought in recent months are being iiiude, neoording to reports ninde to; the chamber of commerce by the new families. One of the largest invest ments is being made by Wheeler and Hawkins who bought the 300-acro) Harry Lockwood ranch on the Wil- inmetto highway about 10 miles from Eugene. They have completely modernized the house on this place, brought Electricity to the iarm and installed a new water system. They nave erected a guest house and office and will soon work on a new house for a caretaker. A new garage, dairy barn and hog houses will be started soon. A number of purebred Jersey cows and some Chester White pigs have been purcnasea and turkeys and sheep will be added soon and the entire place stocked to capneity when barns are completed. The new owners have named the place the "Willamette River Ranch." They expect to make it ono of the outstanding show places of the county. Both of these, men came to Lane county from Santa Barbara. Cal. E. E. Rice, formerly of Ontario. Cal., has reported to the chamber of commerce that he was starting the erection of a set of complete buildings on the ISO-acre farm lo cated five miles north of Eugene and formerly owned by T. J. Ryan. Mr. Rice was n builder for mnny years in California and will supervise the erection of a new home and dairy and poultry barns and get a part of his acreage into crop this spring. He plans to subdivide his acreage and erect a set of buildings on smaller tracts. The Mountain States Power com pany officials recently told E. G. Har lan, manager of the chamber of com merce, they were bringing their lines to four new fnmilies brought here through the chamber's efforts.
